Redway Runners take to the pitch

Mike King is organising a charity football match which will include Redway Runners - all the info below:
--
If you are as ‘sick as a parrot’ when you get a bad parkrun time or with the recent England performance at Euro 2016, then Redway Runners are giving you the opportunity to get this disappointment out of the system.

On Sunday 4 September 13.30 at The Recreation Ground, Hanslope, the inaugural Redway Runners F.C. a.k.a The Green Army, will be taking on the might of AFC Santander (a.k.a. Merchant Banker) in a football match on behalf of Charity of the Year, The Haemophilia Society.

Complementing the dazzling skills on the field (no jokes about tackle) all supporters will be able to purchase a Match day Programme which qualifies them to an array of raffle prizes post match (let us know if you can donate a proze).  The raffle draw and free food will  be supplied in The Cock pub in the centre of the village immediately after the game.

So if you fancy yourself as a whippet of a winger, a rapid right back or simply like kicking people (Sir Douglas of Yabsley) then please contact Mike King at mike.king@people-places.co.uk to put your name forward for squad selection. Hanslope FC have kindly supplied the pitch, changing facilities, tea room, kit and match officials all free of charge so a huge green heart emoji to their Committee.

Ladies - Let us know if you are interested and we will see if we can get a women's match going as well.

It would be amazing if we could rally up a big support on the day and we can make this an annual event for the Charity of the Year. Both teams will not only be playing for pride, but also a Trophy!!!!

NSPCC MK Half Marathon and 10K

The NSPCC Half and 10K is quickly approaching now on Sunday  25 September, we will again be managing a water station on the course we should be behind David Lloyd on the canal again, so we believe the runners will go through this point twice! (if doing the half) and just before the 'ascent' of Campbell Park hill

We really need about 12 helpers, last year helpers got a goodie bag, you would be needed from 9.30am for set up, Jenny is leading this for the club again and if you can help please let Jenny know by mailing her at jenny.dowling1979@hotmail.com

This will also be the club cheering point with the club flags etc.

Remember if you have not entered yet and are a club member then a discount code in the club weekly mail.

Again this year we will have a club theme and back by popular demand, it will be a reunion of the club band - do get you instruments finally out of tune - grab your saucepans and the old band will be back with a few new members as well performing all over MK - badly

On Saturday we had amazing weather for the Furzton Relay and a record 47 teams taking part. Well done to everyone who ran and to our fantastic volunteers who worked really hard to put on a fun event for the club, without them the event couldn't go ahead.

Some amazing individual and team performances and the first three teams home were:

  • 3 men and a little lady (01:02:30),
  • FitMK Extreme (01:02:41)
  • Shenley Striders Team 2 (01:05:38).

Maren on the move

Always disappointing and sad to lose members of the club - good luck to Maren who is off to Germany - maybe a club trip when she sets up the first parkrun in Germany
---
Dear wonderful running club

It is time to say goodbye! After four years in England and one year with Redway Runners I have heavy-heartedly decided to move back to Germany. There are several reasons for that, Brexit being the final straw that breaks the camel’s back (I had to look up this saying). I jokingly said that the vote will be my final omen and take the decision off my shoulders – well who would’ve thought you’d vote out…

I have joined Redway Runners last August, just before my personal life absolutely hit rock bottom. And it doesn’t matter how strong or old or tough you are – when you are alone in a foreign country without your family everything seems so much harder! I have turned up to runs without sleeping or having had any more than a few calories per day. I thought the pain in my belly would distract me from other pains. I was amazed that I could still run but obviously in order to attend club runs regularly I had to start eating properly again. I’ve lost at least 6 kilos (yuhuu) – not the right way (boooh) - but up to today due to running at least 40km per week I maintained that weight in a healthy way.

With so many members that the club has, I have only met a few of you but the ones I have talked to and ran with are absolutely amazing people and I will thoroughly miss this little bit of social regularity. Running has so much become part of my life: When I’m said – I run. When I feel lonely – I run. When I’m angry – I run. When depressions take over – I run. And when I’m happy – hell yeh, of course I run and shout about it! Running is for everyone and Redway Runners demonstrate that by combining so many different runs, groups, events, offers. I’ve probably not even discovered the whole potential of the club.

I’m currently injured which – as you might’ve gathered from the previous paragraph – is a minor disaster for me. I try to cycle but cycling is just the little annoying brother of running.

Once I’ve recovered, I’ll conquer Germany and as my RR membership doesn’t expire until next year, I will be wearing my green t-shirt with pride to run events across the country and send you nice pictures, hoping that you will soon plan a club trip to Hamburg.

I had to discover in shock that Germany was one of the countries not having established a parkrun yet! Can you believe it! I have set myself a goal: set up a parkrun in Hamburg and get the phenomenon running (sorry). Watch this space and see you next year at Hamburg’s Half Marathon with a pre-race parkrun ;-)

Monday Evening runs are moving from 1 August

Our Monday night runs are very popular and, as many people will be aware, we have been experiencing some issues around parking and access to Livingstone Drive at peak periods which has affected both us and others.

To address this, we have been looking for a better home for the Monday night runs. We are really pleased to tell you that from August the evening runs will be starting from the new Decathlon shop in Rooksley (Patriot Drive, MK138PU). This offers free parking in the area, the Costa coffee nearby is open until 19:30.

The meeting point for signing in and announcements will be inside the store which will really help in the cold/dark/wet (Pretty much all year round then!)

Our run leads are busy at the moment scouting out the best routes - making sure we have safe and lit areas with a minimal number of road crossings. As soon as we have these finalised we will let you know

We will be keeping the current format of our Monday runs so to confirm that from the 1 August 2016 the following runs will start from the Decathlon store

At 18:00 we have:
  • Step Up - A 35 minute easy paced step up run

At 19.00 we have 3 runs:
  • Social Run - 4 mile loop back run with a nominated tail runner. Aimed at anyone running 10 minute miles and quicker
  • Club Run - 4 mile set route at your own pace with no loop backs. Suitable for all but people will need to know the route
  • Step Up Run – 3 mile loop back run at an easier pace. Aimed at anyone running 10 minute and 30 second miles and over

THIS CHANGE DOES NOT AFFECT ANY OTHER EVENING OR DAYTIME RUNS

EA Elected Board Member role

If anyone is interested in this role please let me know
------

England Athletics Board Member Election – Nominations sought

Dear Martin
England Athletics is seeking nominations for an elected Board member.
Two positions as elected board members were introduced following the findings of England Athletics’ 2013 Consultation*. One of these positions is now due for re-election.
Clubs are being urged to identify and support the nomination of suitable individuals (see candidate brief below). The elections will see votes cast by England Athletics’ member clubs and organisations. Full details on the nomination and election process are available below.
Chair of England Athletics Peter King said, “The positions as elected Board members were introduced to strengthen the democratic systems in place at England Athletics and are an important part of how England Athletics operates.
“We would, therefore, encourage all clubs to consider suitable candidates and fully engage in the nomination process. This is an essential part of ensuring that our clubs are effectively represented.
“It is important England Athletics works in the best interests of our members. Elected Board members play a key role in addition to the contributions made by the Regional Councils, National Council and two National Council representatives on the Board.”

Nomination and Election Schedule

  • Tuesday 19 July 2016 – Opening of nominations for individuals for election
  • Friday 19 August 2016 – Nominations for election close
  • Friday 9 September – Announcement of elected director if only one nomination received
  • Thursday 22 September – Announcement of candidates and candidate statements if ballot required
  • Saturday 15 October 2016 – Ballot to elect Board member held as part of England Athletics Annual General Meeting and Public Announcement of election results

Nominations should be supported by a minimum of 10 member organisations exercising not less than 20 votes at a general meeting of the Company (England Athletics).
For full details of the nomination and election process click on the documents below to download them.
*During the 2013 consultation clubs expressed a desire for more representation within the structure of England Athletics. As a result of this a proposal by the Board of England Athletics to create two new seats on the Board elected by Member organisations was put forward and approved at the 2013 AGM. These seats are in addition to the two seats on the Board allocated to National Council.
