Cross Country - Saturday, Luton

It is race three in the cross country series this Saturday (6 December). It's only in Luton. Details below on venue and parking.

Ladies 1:15pm Men 2pm

We don't have a Gazebo, so please remember your bin bags to put bags in and those who took their number home, don't forget to bring them too! - if you are doing it for the first time see Vanessa on the day

Parking for cars and mini-buses will be in the Luton Discovery Centre car park with access off London Road. LU1 4LX. Note this is also the entrance to Stockwood Park Golf Club but please continue on the access road past the Golf Club car park to the Discovery Centre.
Also note that the entrance is very close to the turnoff from the M1 Junction 10A roundabout.


Bacchus Half Marathon

Michelle GB did the Bacchus Half Marathon in September and a few of us are thinking of getting a group together to go down – have even talked to the organisors and if we enter a group of 10 or more then we can get an additional 10% discount. It is on 13th September at 11am in Dorking, Surrey. The event web site can be found at
This race is a little different form the normal with wine stations, post-race BBQ, fancy dress and stunning views the focus of this event is fun, fun, fun. There is a half, full marathon and a fun run.

So we can see if it is worth getting the group discount can you let us know if you are interested and then we will co-ordinate entries.

Jantastic 2015

Let's show the running community how great Redway Runners are!  With your help we might be able to have the largest group taking part!  If you run twice a week, maybe a parkrun and another time in the week you can join. ( can be two activities run and swim or bike.)
When the New Year rolls around we all like to make fitness and health goals.  We also know how hard it can be to stick to them for very long. Jantastic is a fun , simply, free fitness challenge to keep you motivated and achieve your personal performance, fitness or health goals through winter and spring.

Jantastic is open to all abilities and aspirations.  Whether you are a first timer exerciser looking to get started with a physical activity campaign or a regular athlete aiming for your next personal best Jantastic will work for you.

November 2014 by numbers and highlights

During November on the runs, i.e. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays, Sundays and Beginners groups, we had 52 (61) runs, we completed 1,249 (1,323) runs between us with a maximum of 84 (59) runners on a run and completed roughly 6,251 (7,933) miles between us (bet you have to read that twice to follow - or have already given up!).

12 challenges of Christmas

Coming soon we have the 12 challenges of Christmas!! This will be a fun challenge every day for the 12 days - with the last challenge to run 5K or more on Christmas day.

So can hear you ask what are the challenges? Well these will be revealed the day before at about 16:00 on the clubs Facebook page and Twitter pages - you then need to complete the challenge the next day - most of them fun - and then post your 'proof' of completing the challenge.

What di we get for completing the challenge? Major prizes from smug satisfaction of achieving the challenge to providing amusement to others at what you have done

What will the challenges be like - post a selfie from your run - you need to be wearing a Christmas hat - post the photo under this story tomorrow.

Anything else - well we currently have 8 challenges - so if you have any ideas mail them into Just remember you could be the one doing it!

This week we have hit the milestone of having 700 paid club members of Redway Runners - wow

Research - can you help

Dee, from the club is conducting a research study for the University of Bedfordshire and the department of Sport  and Physical Education. Her study is focus on Lifelong Participation in Physical Activities which includes women’s participation in and experiences in Physical Education in school and experiences after school.
I will need participants to be women and age 20-30 and the findings will aid researches at university to obtain data and information that will aid students to use as benchmarks in sport during the degree.

the club run on Friday took a detour round to see the set up for the Cyclo-Cross World Cup at the weekend in Campbell Park

Forest of Dean Half Marathon

Been asked to pass on details of these two events
Forest of Dean Half Marathon - Sunday 29th March 2015 entries now open. We would be grateful if you could promote our Spring Half Marathon to your members.
This event is in 18th year and with continued improvements over the years continues to get great reviews. Many local running Clubs have added it to their club championships and we get excess of 2500 entries.The event is a single lap of traffic free running, the majority on wide hard forest trails. We also organise an Autumn Half Marathon which is run entirely off road, again on good wide tracks entries will open shortly

Both events are run entirely for charity, all the organisers give their time for free.

Christmas Party - SATURDAY

Time to think all things Christmas party for this Saturday.

Please arrive by 7pm

Tickets can be bought from Martin or Julie, they are £1 per ticket and drawn at the party.

Children’s Christmas gifts
As in previous years we will be collecting Christmas presents for distribution to local children's homes. Please spare a thought for others and bring along a wrapped presents, marked, boy or girl and rough age, to the Christmas party which will be taken to Banardos to distribute.
If you can not make the party please bring along to a club run and leave with Martin, Julie or Rena

Disco tickets are still available at £2 each for anyone who wants to come in and join the fun from 10pm. Money to Julie or Martin please.

Up and Running Winter Half

On the day we runners meet near to the David Lloyd barriers at 9.40 for a group photo

Redway Runners are manning the water station at mile 9 (Teardrop Lakes). It's being led by Diane If you can help, please get in touch. You will need to be there at 10.00 ready for the first runners coming through around 10.45. This will also be the club cheering point so come along and support the green team.

To celebrate the achievements of all we will be having a social in the evening at the Wetherspoons near the V6 (201 Midsummer Boulevard, Bouverie Square,MK9 1EA) from 19:00 - runners bring your medals.

Redway Runners Social Evening at MK Lightning Ice Hockey

We are organising a Redway Runners trip to the Milton Keynes Lightning ice hockey match on Saturday 10 January 2015.  The game starts at 19:00 and is against the Sheffield Steeldogs.  As you may have read in the local press, the team have just returned to MK to play their games at a beautifully refurbished ice rink just behind “Argos” and “Toys R Us” near MK Central Station. 
We have managed to get an excellent discount on ticket prices.  Adults will cost £7.50 (instead of the normal £12.50) and children under 16 years of age will be charged at £3 (instead of the normal £6.50).  Those who have never been to ice hockey before are in for an evening of a fast paced, hard hitting game with the odd fight here and there!  The game will be over at about 9.15pm.  There is a splendid bar and good food and beverage facilities.  We will all be seated in a block together which will add to the fun.

New Evening Beginner group starting

We are launching a new free evening beginners course with Glenn & Hannah (course number.21) on the 12 January 2015 on Mondays at 18:00  (first week 17:45) with the group graduating at the MK 5K parkrun on 14 March 2015

Places are limited and it is likely to fill up fast, you need to book - full details are at:

We have two marathon clinics set up for 2015, with excellent speakers, so if you are running a marathon or have an interest in running it is worth getting booked up - details at:

Bucks and Beds County Cross Country Championships 

These will be held on 3 January at Hughenden Park, High Wycombe
Entries cost £5 per athlete please speak to James Down and get a cheque/bank transfer to the club by at the latest 6 December (our next Chiltern League Meeting in Luton), to ensure James can get our entry in before the deadline.

Redway Runners London Marathon Coach

After great interest has been shown Redway Runners will be offering a coach service for the 2015 VLM.on Sunday 26 April.

The plan is to leave David Lloyd at 6am allowing plenty of time to drop our runners at the start then ferry supporters a little more central to make your own way around the course.
We will arrange pick up from the Wetherspoons pub in Leicester Square a short walk/hobble from the finish. "Moon under water" for 17:00.

Club kit is now available with the new club name on it, the order form has been updated and is available on the club site under shop

The committee has agreed that we will contribute to members who wanted to purchase new club kit and from now to the 31 December 2014, then the club would offer each paid member the opportunity to purchase one club running top, with a reduction of £5 off the normal price, these items are:

Normal Running Timetable

RUNNING CLUB - all standards - 'Social run' 4 miles, with loop back for those who run 10 minute miles and quicker, 'Step up group' which does 2.7 miles at a gentle pace and the 'Club run' which does a 4 mile run with no loop backs, so you need to know the route. Each run has a tail runner.
Meet near the barrier entrance at 19.00 or if you are new at 18.50.
6 to 8 miles, approximately 9 minute/mile pace, meet reception 10.00 for a 60-75 minute run.
RUNNING CLUB - all standards - meet at 9.30 prompt in at David Lloyd reception for a max 1 hour run (we mix up runs with Interval sessions or hills or a handicap run).
Evening run or session work (hills, intervals or the handicap run) meet near the barriers at 19.00
10 miles, at under 9 minute/mile pace, meet reception 9.30.
parkrun *, 5k meet at the mini bowl at Willen Lake 9.00 - all standards - free event - should register before attending and bring the barcode, you can register your club as 'Redway Runners' even if you have not joined as it is a free event.
Longer training runs, meet at 9.00 check the web site under 'Train' and ‘Sunday runs’ for details.

Please remember to do your warm up and cool downs before and after the run.
