It is free, open to all club members and all abilities, your times will also be recorded in our club results.
We plan to deliver this on a regular basis at least monthly. We will need 4 people each time for it to happen and are looking for a couple of helpers to get the first one off the ground. Please let Spencer or Martin know if you are able to help for the 9 August. Further dates will be published shortly.

Come along regularly to test your speed and fitness within a fun group environment and compare your improvements. This will culminate in a timed mile on the track on Wednesday 26 November to close the season.

DLRR Feedback

Had some great feedback on what DLRR has been up to recently - well done all involved:

Evening Beginners group with Glenn
Just wanted to let you know that I joined glens group last night and went running! Me in a group…. Running! Ahhhhhh
It was really good. I was a bit slower than the others but I was consistent and I didn’t stop. It was super-hot as well.
I had fun and will definitely go again as I really now want to complete the parkrun and get myself a green t shirt!
The support from the team was great
DLRR Water station at the NSPCC half Marathon led by Jenny
Very many thanks for taking charge of the mile 9 water station, Lawrence has said what a fantastic job you did and we greatly appreciate this support. As you are aware, water stations are essential to the smooth running of the day especially for those that take part, and it is only with the help you have given that we are able to organise such a successful event.

The funds raised from this race will make a real difference to children –every £12 could enable us to reach another child via our ChildLine Schools Service – helping us to give them the knowledge to protect themselves from abuse.

Once again thank you.

Clive Gear, Chair, NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon
Coached Monday morning session with Portia
Great Monday coached sessions .
Excellent coaching and very encouraging sessions to suit all . Fitness/core strength/balance/and running skills all improving . I was asked to be lead runner this week .. Great fun .... So good to be in a group of friends all of whom are so encouraging.
Portia are fab and I look forward to more coached sessions in September .
DLRR and this coaching has helped me achieve an age group win at a recent sprint triathlon ... I am very happy
Keep up the good work ... And you runners out there ... Come and join us and see for yourself what you can achieve !
Coached Monday morning session with Portia
Thank you very much for the last few weeks coaching us.  I enjoyed every minute of it.  I have certainly learned a lot, from running up  and down hills properly. Balance and core work which I practice most days.  I enjoyed being tail runner today after my race yesterday and my Achilles giving me a bit of pain I took it easy, note to self have to stretch more after running.

Swallowfield 10+3 & Duathlon event

Been asked to pass on details of this event below:

It’s that time of year again and we’re promoting the Swallowfield 10+3 & Duathlon event -  the key fundraiser for 1st Swallowfield Scout Group – it’s taking place on Sunday 21st September.
We had a record field last year for this beautiful Run and Duathlon and we’d love to see more new faces and of course old faces in 2014. So, could we ask (in a pleading, polite and hopefully not annoying way) for you to once again promote the event amongst your members?
I have attached a copy of our flyer/booking form which if you could send out via email would be great and if you could add a link on your website, (you can find us at that would be amazing.
While the primary goal is to raise money for the Scout Group, it has also become a fabulous community event in and around Swallowfield village; all the courses are set in the beautiful Berkshire countryside.
This year’s event will include;
An undulating 10K Road Race that will take place along a certified and measured route and for the second year in a row we have road closures in place to ensure the safety of our runners. (Details of the route can be found at
There will be 3K Fun Run around the fabulous grounds of Swallowfield Park; the race is on grass and perfect for anyone looking to try their first running challenge or for our younger athletes out there (min age 8). (Details of this route can be found at
Finally , the Swallowfield Duathlon: The duathlon goes from strength to strength and is ideal for Triathletes looking for something drier or runners looking to venture in to the Duathlon/Triathlon World. We have continued to work with the British Triathlon Association to ensure the route is perfect for the broadest range of entrants possible. The Duathlon has two running sections (6.7km and 3.7km) with a great cycling section of 18km in the middle – a perfect event for anyone wanting to try out a mulch-discipline event, and challenging enough for veteran, multi-discipline athletes. (Details of this route can be found at
As always there will be our catering tent with homemade cakes, bacon sandwiches and tea, as well as an event Physio and of course we'll have the same supportive community crowds cheering everyone on.
But don’t just take our word for it, check out the feedback from runners and duathletes at
Please do share our event with your members and friends; not only is it raising money for a great cause, but it’s a great event for anyone in the running and duathlon world.
Thank you ever so much for your support and we look forward to seeing you and your members there.
Helen, On behalf of 1st Swallowfield Scout Group
