2017 overseas club trip

We are pleased to let you know that the first overseas club trip of the year will be to the Santa Pola half marathon in Spain on the 22 January 2017.

All the details are at:

So come along for a great run weekend with a bit of running as well.

If you book let us know and will add you to a Facebook page for the event.

Tour of Milton Keynes

Big news for this year's tour - could you win the new club award!

This year’s tour, the 34th, will start on Sunday 21 August with the Tattenhoe 11km and finish on Friday 26 August with the Willen Lake 6 and has six races over the six days.

For the event this year we have been working with MMKAC and have agreed we will be presenting for the first time THREE awards just for Redway Runner members on the last evening at the presentations

You will need to be a paid Redway Runner member and have 'Redway Runners' registered as your club in the entry list.

The awards are for:
  • Fastest Redway Runner male completing all six events
  • Fastest Redway Runner lady completing all six events
  • Most improved Redway Runners in all six events (you will need to have been a Redway Runner last year and this year and completed all six events both year)
You will keep the award for one year and then it will go on to next years winner

All the details of the event and entry forms on the MMKAC website (see link of the left from home page) at:

Furzton Relay - Update

Just wanted to let you know some fantastic news that we now have as the dust has settled after this years Furzton Relay on 16 July.

We raised from the event £1,567.40 for the clubs charity of the year - a fantastic achievement - so many thanks to all the teams across Milton Keynes who took part and made it a fabulous team event and to everyone that helped before during and after the race with making it happen.

This year we had our biggest turnout with 48 teams entered which was a record.

Many thanks to Andy Hully who organised for the club this year and I am pleased to let you know that Andy has agreed to be the Race Director again for next years race - we are looking for people to join and help with organising the event - if you can help let Andy know or reply to this message and will pass it on.

For next years event we will make a number of small improvements we have identified including re-introduce the rule that to receive an award the team must be mixed.

parkrun Road Trip

This Saturday (30 July) is the third week at the new Linford Wood parkrun - so it just has to be the week for a Redway Runners road trip

Meet at 8.50 near the start for a big green photo

Details of the parkrun at:

Monday nights from Decathlon

As you all hopefully know by now, from next week (1 August) the Monday evening runs will be meeting at the Decathlon store on Patriot Drive, MK13 8PU

The stores in the retail park will still be open so be aware that there will be shoppers milling around the area - as always be courteous and considerate to everyone, including your fellow runners

There is a side car park next to Smyths Toys, extending around the back slightly and it is suggested that we use this to park in as it will be quieter. Parking is free

Our run leads have been working on a number of new routes, some of which were tested on last weeks Sunday Run.

For (at least) the first week we will be combining both the Club and Social Runs along one of the new routes to get people used to it so the club runners know where to go on their own in subsequent weeks

The route is easy to follow (!) and well lit, although slightly longer than the current Club Run at 4.4'll be pleased to know that it's also much flatter than the route we tested on the Sunday run recently!

The Step Up run will start on their new route next week - this will be similar in distance to the current route at between 2.5 and 3 miles.

The usual 7pm announcements from Martin will be inside the Decathlon store.....see you all there!

Great Linford Summer of Fun

“The Great Linford Summer of Fun" is now up and running.  5 weeks of activities for adults and children based at a different location each week.  Redway Runners are running taster sessions on Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm as follows:
  •          3 August - Downs Barn Primary School, Downs Barn Boulevard MK14 7NA
  •          10 August - Giffard Park Primary School, Broadway Avenue MK14 5PY
  •          17 August - Downs Barn Primary School, Downs Barn Boulevard MK14 7NA
  •          24 August - St Monica’s Catholic Primary School, Currier Drive, Neath Hill MK14 6HB
These sessions will be at Beginner/step-up level and are free for Redway Runner members.  There is also free parking at all of the venues.  So if you fancy a change of scenery why not join Glenn on one of these runs?
Note that the Wednesday 6:00pm run with Neil will continue through this period so you can still do that one if you prefer.”

Redway Runners at Great British Beer Festival

Just a reminder about the Great British Beer Festival at London's Olympia on Thurs 11 Aug.
Last year we took a small but rowdy group of Redway Runners down to the festival and had a good crack at sampling some of the 900 beers and ciders on offer, looking to do the same again this year. Tickets are £11 in advance for the festival and train tickets are around £15 return inc an all day travel card.

On the Run with Tom and Lorraine

We have been working behind the scenes recently to make sure we are as welcoming to runners as possible, in May this year Sam guided a blind runner round the Milton Keynes half marathon and also Martin D and Doug have been guides for runners at recent club runs.

In the club we have now set up a group to make sure when possible we can meet requests from runners who may need extra help, the runners in this group are happy to give up there runs to help other runners and they are attending courses to help for some aspects of this.

So with this in mind I would like to share Tom's story who has been running for us for over three months now and Lorraine has been Tom's buddy for the club runs, I was keen to share Tom and Lorraine's story so that hopefully it will inspire other runners to take up running and show what can be done with ambition and determination. So the story is below

Thanks so much to Tom for letting us share his running journey with Redway Runners

Great to be asked by Martin to write a little bit for the newsletter – this is Tom, I have had the pleasure of buddying Tom since April when the club were contacted by his Mum enquiring how he could join, the club gets many enquiries from people wanting to join - but this enquiry turned out to be extra special.

Tom is 17 and has Asperger’s.  He is fit and active but finds it difficult to connect with people, Mum and the rest of the family are trying to find ways to help him with this – to find things they hope he will enjoy, something he can do independently & help build confidence in social situations.

I met with Tom and his Mum one afternoon and over a cup of tea, got to know Tom a little, his hobbies & interests and we chatted about all things running related & this proved to be the start of a great running friendship.

For the club it was a fantastic opportunity to show the huge benefits there are to being part of this running family and the chance to show that running and being part of the club is for everyone.
Tom and I have now completed 12 weeks of running, having a great time with the Monday 6pm Step Up group and its clear to see that Toms pace and stamina is improving little by little each week  -  won’t be long before he may need a much speedier buddy!

More importantly, he is enjoying it  -  Mum has emailed to say he LOVES it, he’s interacting with the group, keen to do loop backs, shouting the obligatory reminders on posts & bikes and the confidence he shows is awesome – he attended last week’s run without me whilst I celebrated a family birthday (although nice to hear I was missed!).

On a personal note, I am so incredibly proud of Tom, I’ve enjoyed every run we have done – many of us remember that first night, where everyone seems to know which group they are in, know people to talk to etc. & it can be daunting, I know it was when I joined - so for Tom this was a huge challenge & he’s done amazing.

A big thank you to the Monday 6pm group who have been awesome and special mention to Glenn and Debbie for leading the group and being on hand if I needed them.

Tom is on holiday for the next couple of weeks and when he returns we are switching to the 6pm Weds group so we look forward to seeing you all then.

On the Run with Steph

We went on the run with Stephanie Dutton, and this is her story

In May, 2015 I joined the Redway Runners. Within a few weeks of joining, I chose to take part in the Zero to Hero Programme that the club had created. The programme takes Zero runners to run a Marathon, which makes them a Hero. Each participant is assigned a mentor, who guides you through your 12-month of training.

Unfortunately I never got to run the MK Marathon in May, 2016 due to an injury 2-months prior to the big day. However, I have the opportunity to train again with the Zero to Hero programme for the 2017 MK Marathon.

The Redway Runners Rock! If it wasn't for the encouragement of the Redway Runners, I would not be challenging myself in any form. Instead I’d probably be dreaming about training for a Marathon, and as for trail running it wouldn't even be on my radar.

Talking of trail-running, there happened to be a post in the August Women’s Running Magazine that caught my eye. They were looking for 3-women to run their first trail-run half-marathon. I applied and somehow they liked my story.

So, I was one of three women chosen to participate in the Project Trail, which is organised by the Women’s Running Magazine. They will be training us for the off-road Bath Hilly-Half in November

Our first meeting was held at Wimbledon Common last Wednesday, where I got to meet, not only the Team organising the Project Trail, but also Abbey and Clare, and the 3-men who will be running for the Men’s Running Magazine.

Our day at Wimbledon Common was a mixture of being interviewed, having our photos taken in our new gear, which was sponsored by Columbia Sports, Montrail, Addida, TomTom and High5.

As our day came to an end, I felt really good about being part of Project Trail. It’s going to be a challenge as I’ve never done anything like this before. But, challenges are good, right?

My running-bug has how infected my family - 3 of my grandchildren are now running in the MK junior park-run, and my daughter-in-law has just joined the Redway Runners. It’s a family affair!

Andorra Ultra

Helen from the club has asked me to let you know about this a few may be interested in
I thought I would forward this to the club.  Every July there is an ultra trail weekend in Andorra in the Pyrenees with races of marathon, 83 k, 112 k and 170 k.  On the Sunday there is also a 10 k for the whole family, which I did with my sister Ann, - it's very impressive to see a 4 year old run up a mountain with a 750 m height gain!
Ann lives in Andorra and has offered to put people up or help sort out accommodation if too many. The atmosphere is superb, it was incredible to watch the ultra runners come in to finish, some of whom had been running non-stop for 60 plus hours.  If you watch the videos the scenery is stunning.  I thought there might be some Redway Runners up for the challenge?
Kind regards,
