Redway Runners welcome

Congratulations the Redway Runners member Heather, thankfully she decide against spectating at parkrun on Saturday but had her very own PB that being of a labour in less than 1 hour!!! Yes Archie was born at 10:06 am on the bathroom floor 6 weeks premature - he certainly came out running!

Archie is in the fantastic care in the Neonatal ward and they hope he will be home in a couple of weeks. Heather says thank you to all her wonderful running buddies for all their kind words & support over the last few days and she will see you at a parkrun soon.

Massive congratulations from all at Redway Runners to Heather, Leigh and Archie

Redway Runners (RR) logo

Over the last week we have been finalising the logo to go with the new name for the club which takes effect from the 1 November  - Redway Runners - we just had to make some final adjustments to ensure we avoided any potential copy-write issues and we took in a couple of bits of your feedback in the final design agreed by the committee.

This is the logo that will be appearing around the club. Thanks to Simon K for all the work on the design

New Boot Camp Club Run

We are adding a new daytime club run, it will be a 'Redway Runners Boot Camp run' in associate with Special Ops MK and free for Redway Runners on Thursday mornings at 10.00 for up to 90 minutes, we are initially doing this as a pilot starting next Thursday the 9 October till Christmas so the last one 11 December.

Who - It is aimed at all runners of all abilities

What - this is a Boot Camp style run, from doing these sessions you will improve your core strength and work with your upper body and improve stamina. It will also cover mental ability and team work and the effects different out side forces can have on the body, things like hypothermia, heat exhaustion, and dehydration. On these sessions you will get dirty so old running clothes and shoes are appropriate and gloves

Where - meet at Special Ops, Simpson Road, Milton Keynes MK6 3AG at 10.00, just turn up (the facility has showers and toilets)

Run Leads; The session is being run in association with Special Ops, who have lots of experience of running these types of sessions, Sgt Mack and Carlos look forward to meeting you.

London Marathon 2015

If you have been unsuccessful in the ballot for the London Marathon 2015 (magazines should arrive any day now) and you want to enter the ballot for the one of the places that the club will hopefully receive, then you need to keep the rejection letter and outer wrapper from your rejection magazine.
All the info on the club ballot are on this page.
You need to put the rejection letter AND the outer wrapper in and envelope and pass them to the club secretary Denise Browning (or give to Martin - who can pass on) as soon as possible, but by the 25 November 2014.
We will let you know as soon as we get it confirmed from UKA how many places the club are allocated

Mark @ Wales Ironman

DLRR member Mark Kleanthous Competitor & triathlon coach competed in the 4th running of Ironman Wales. He wanted to celebrate his 30th Ironman season by looking for a new challenge, Mark had heard that the Tenby course was tougher than most and was much harder than it looked on paper with 5,100 feet of climbing & 20% climbs on the bike and a hilly run. In June he went to check every part of the course so there was no surprises race day.
Mark competed in his 37th Ironman Wales and claimed it was the toughest he had done so far.
Usually the Ironman will have an average of 5% drop out rate from starters to finishers for the 140.6 miles swimming cycling and running.
Due to the sea was so rough with 1.4 m waves more than 90 failed to finish or complete the 2.4 mile swim in 2 hours 20 minutes official cut off time.
Marks official splits were Swim 2.4 miles = 1:12:30 Bike 112 miles = 6:28:58 Run 26.2 mile marathon = 4:06:40 to finish 257th overall in a total time of 12 hours 7 minutes including transitions, of the 2,090 competitors that entered 1,612 competitors completed the course in under 17 hours.
Mark had no time to relax afterwards a quick shower some food and was back out cheering all the athletes, those he knew and coached to the finish line.
Not only did Mark compete he coached and mentored many of this years Ironman competitors to successfully complete Ironman Wales,
Hollie Cradduck 23 (13:47) who was 3rd in her age group & qualified for Kona 2015, Sophie Radcliffe 29 (14:06) Simon Dodd 38 (15:51) & school teacher Catherine Galvin 36 (15:03:25) from Ireland who came across on the ferry raced and then went straight back to work teaching.
Mark is a now a 37 Ironman finisher and says that Ironman Wales is one of the toughest Ironman events in the world & that Tenby really embraces the Ironman much more than many of the cities he has race in.
He will be wearing his Ironman Wales finishers t-shirt with pride.
