Update; 2 February 2017

Zero To Hero

We are launching the new Redway Runners Zero to Hero programme to take novice runners to the Milton Keynes Marathon in 2018 and all the details are below.
The next programme will be lead by Sean O'Leary who will manage the programme and Portia Simond who will manage the coaching activity.
They are taking over from Doug Yabsley and Stuart Woodruff, who I would like to say a massive thank you to for creating this great programme for Redway Runners without all the hard work undertaken we would not be moving into our third group.
Anyway if you know of anyone interested all the details are below.

Zero to Hero Programme 2017/2018

"We could be heroes, just for one day" - David Bowie

Is it your dream to run a Marathon, but don't know where to start?
Why not apply for a place on our Zero to Hero programme

Redway Runners are looking for 20 unique individuals that fit our selection criteria:

  • Are a novice runner looking for a serious challenge
  • Can commit to a 12 month training programme
  • Are you a member of Redway Runners, or willing to join

Redway Runners can help and you could become one of our marathon "Heroes"

Runners will be offered step by step training and will be supported and mentored through a series of running plans with milestones events at 5k, 10k, half marathon, 20 miles with the aim of completing the Milton Keynes marathon in May 2018.

If you are ready to become a marathon hero, then now is the time.

Register your interest by e-mail: by 28th February 2017

As space is limited on the programme, you will be asked to complete a short application for selection.

Club Members only: Can you see yourself as a Running Mentor?

Can you provide fun, guidance, motivation, emotional support, and role modelling to a novice runner on our Zero to Hero programme? Have you completed a marathon distance? Can commit your time over a 12 month period?

If the answer is yes to all above questions, we need your valuable experience. Please drop a line to explaining a bit about yourself, why you want to mentor and how you can help our mentee's. Emails to be received by closing date 20 Feb 2017.

Monday night runs

Since we moved the Monday evening runs to Decathlon we have been listening to members feedback, especially given the positive comments about the 6pm Step Up run relocating away from Decathlon to the Peace Pagoda recently

Although Decathlon offered plenty of positives as a meeting point and clearly suited some of our runners we decided that it was not quite right as a long term solution for our flagship evening runs - especially given our desire to have all our Monday evening runs starting in the same place

We have been working hard behind the scenes for some time to secure an alternative meeting point and after looking at various options have secured a car park at the Mercedes-Benz training centre

This offers a large number of free parking spaces and is situated close to our spiritual home of Willen Lake

So from Monday 20 February all the Monday evening runs as shown below will be starting from Mercedes
  • 6pm Step Up
  • 7pm Step Up
  • 7pm Social Run
  • 7pm Club Run
All our other weekly runs are unaffected

The address is
Mercedes-Benz Training Centre
Delaware Drive
MK15 8BA

Runners should use the Training Centre entrance and park on the left hand side car park

Please also note that we are not permitted to run on the site (So no jogging round the car park!) and must have vacated the site by 8:30pm when the barrier will come down

Further information will be published about routes in due course and we hope that the majority of members will see this as a positive move for the club

Special thanks must also go to Kevin Ferris who has been invaluable in gaining the necessary permissions to use the site

Running Related Questions

Whether you're training for your first race or are just taking up running for the first time, you may have some running related questions that you'd like answered but have never thought to ask.

Don't worry: You're not the only one whose toenails are falling off and you aren't the only person chafing in areas we don't talk about in polite company. We've all been there, and we're here for you!!

We have set up a new 'Dear Portia' frequently asked questions page on our website where one of our resident coaches has kicked things off with answers to some common questions

We would also like people to email Portia with any other things they would like to ask - these would then be used to build the web page to help everyone. Once a month we will also be featuring a 'Dear Portia...' section in the weekly email to highlight key questions that have been asked that month

The page can be found by clicking on 'Training' from the home page or use the url below

Ron Hill Ends an Era

Not sure if you have seen in the news that Ron Hill has had to take a day off after a 52 year streak of running every day.

Well I was reminded, by Paul on one of those days on Saturday 26 March 2011 Ron ran the MK parkrun and we took the opportunity to get this photo (can you name those runners?). Fab achievement and lets hope he is back running very soon - you can read more at:

Redway Runners medal hangers, pleased to let you know that Kevin from the club has offered to produce medal hangers for members.
You can have either dull polished (brushed effect) or Bright annealed (mirror polish) stainless steel for £16.50
Or can have in club green, mild steel at £20.00.
Prices include VAT, 2 x screws and 4 x washers, plus any profit from the order will be donated to the club charity of the year.
Delivery would be about 2 weeks from the order being placed, price does not include delivery as would pick up direct from Kevin.

Beat the Street has seen more than 300,000 players taking part across the UK in 2016 and is managed by Intelligent Health with full support of Milton Keynes Council’s Sustainable Travel Team as part of the Get Smarter Travel in Milton Keynes programme.
