DLRR Autumn club trip

Forget all about Christmas and start planning for 2014 - the big announcement is the DLRR club autumn overseas trip, after weeks of industrious research, will be to the Budapest Half Marathon on the 15 September 2014.

So come along and enjoy the fun - all the details are on this page:

Christmas Fun

Been having some Christmas fun on Facebook over the last few days - can you guess the green Santas?
Answer before running bites

We asked for favourite race and the very unscientific poll voted parkrun, followed by Dirt half then St Albans Half

Guess the number of runners at parkrun on Christmas day

Christmas Presents delivered

This picture was posted on the club Facebook page with the following messages:

Merry Christmas DLRR - 6 months ago none us could run, and we didn't know each other. 2 beginners groups, the fabulous step up group, parkrun and now the big, scary social and occasional intervals and we have our green T's... This is why DLRR is fab!!! THANK YOU

also this comment:

Aww, I'm welling up. True though, signing up to the beginners group is one of the best things I've ever done. It's given me fitness, friends and a reason to get off the sofa - who knew I'd enjoy running? Now if DLRR could provide a new pair of lungs with the green tee's I'd be sorted!

DLRR Winner

Congratulations to our Russell Rose for winning the head torch from Run England Bucks - for the work with our beginners group
Well done Russ

Boxing Day run

We had 27 out for our traditional Boxing Day run from Newport Pagnell - but forgot to take the picture - so took it after the coffee

Oakley 20 mile race

The Oakley 20 mile race on the 23 March is now open for entries
Let us know if you have entered and can add to the 'Who Racing Where' page

Target 10K

Our friends at Race Timing Systems have given to DLRR paid members a £5 discount of entry to the Target 10K on the 12 January 2014
You will need a unique code to get the discount and this can only be claimed with on-line entries - you need to get a unique code from me (Martin) so if you want the code get in touch - by using the code we will also put you on the 'Who Racing Where page' on the club website
More details on the event at:

Welcome events

Have previously mention on Tuesday 14 January in the evening going to trial a welcome evening, where runners come along and we tell them a bit about the club and then go for a short run.

Well not forgetting the daytime runners we are going to try on Thursday morning 9 January (9.15 to about 12:00) having a table just inside the entrance to David Lloyd and telling people about the running club.

So far have Martin, Portia, Abigail and Tim helping if anyone else can come along in the green please do.

More details on the evening session further down this mail.

pacing @ parkrun

Well we are going to do it again - that is Pacing at parkrun, looking at the 18 January, which also happens to be the MK parkrun birthday event - was prompted that we do this following the mail in received, which you can see below. Also it is a way that we can give something back as a club - especially as we have so many of you volunteering every week - not really looking at have a DLRR only volunteers week as we are there every week.

Anyway can you help - you will qualify for the volunteer points and have agreed with MK parkrun that if we can not fill the slots will open up to others - so come on - if you can help please let me know what time you will run

I just wanted to update you on the amount of positive comments received from parkrunners when we paced a few Saturdays back. I have actually had people come up to me asking when it would happen again, thanking us as they have achieved there PB's, they felt it was brilliant as gave them goals and to push themselves, also one new parkrunner asked me a couple of Saturday's ago where my number was and why this wasn't done weekly?
I think this shows what value DLRR brings to such events and that we are keen to help others. The feedback has been great and maybe something we can do more often (not weekly though!!) I would be more than happy to pace

So far have these slots filled:
20 mins Stuart Sullivan
21 Paul Woodward
22 Mick Bates
23 Ian Brookes
24 Simon Baker
25 Spencer Ollington
26 Steve Burlace
27 Jen Bates
28 Glenn Dickinson
29 Andy Worth
32 Jen Wallis

On this date we also have our beginners group doing parkrun so Russ will be looking for buddies as well

Let me know if you can fill the slots 20 minutes or less or 29, 30, 31 or 33+

New Year running

We are now into the New Year running schedule - you can find the list from the home page and clicking Merry Christmas or click here

Cross Country Championships

We have 48 DLRR entries for the Cross Country on 4 January 2014 in Luton - all the names have been added to the 'who is racing' where page as well at:

We have had confirmation of our entry, with final instructions - you can find a link to these on the news page on the club web site

New Beginners Groups

Starting in the new year we have TWO new free beginners groups starting

These new 10 week beginner’s courses and end with the group doing the Milton Keynes free 5K parkrun on a Saturday morning, then joining the clubs runs

So if you know anyone who has a new year resolution to start running or get back to running then get them to sign up on the link below, saying which group they want to sign up for

The New daytime group will be on Thursday mornings at 10:00 with Portia starting on the 16 January

The New evening group will be on Tuesday evenings at 18:00 with Gareth starting on the 21 January

Places are limited so book early and more details at:

Please share this info with anyone who may be interested.

Jantastic 2014

DLRR are a team on Jantastic, so why not join in, Tasha has kindly set DLRR up as a team, everyone needs to sign up individually and then join the team, it is all fun and free. Its worked on a % basis so everyone can set their own targets depending on specific goals/abilities etc and as long as they stick to targets and log their runs it will all count towards the teams points
So come on get signed up at:

Welcome to DLRR evening

In January we usually get many new runners joining us for the first run with the club and one thing we are going to try next year is a 'welcome to DLRR' evening',

We could do with your help in getting this invite out to anyone who may be interested in the club or any part of the club. Also if you are free on the evening to come and meet new runners and tell them your story about running with DLRR.

New runners are more than welcome to come along to our main club runs on Monday evenings at 19.00 or Wednesday mornings at 9.30am, or to try the marathon (and half) training Sunday runs (,

But we are also going to offer this free 'welcome evening' to come along if you have just started with the club or want to make this you first time with DLRR and find out more about us.

It will be on Tuesday 14 January at 19.00 upstairs at David Lloyd and we will first of all tell new runners a little bit about the club and what we do and about how our runs work and how we look after all our runners and the benefits of being in a club.

After this we will then go out for a short run to give a nice easy demonstration of what we do on some of our runs.

We will have plenty of time for any questions.and aim it to last about 75 to 90 minutes

Marathon clinics at DLRR

Previously told you about the DLRR marathon clinics to help runners at Spring marathons and general running,, well details of all three are all on the club website, also information on how to book.
If you are interested, then recommend booking as soon as possible as places are going to be opened to a wider group very soon
