Marathon Training

Not long now till we start the 'class of 2017' yes the club Sunday marathon training runs starting in January, each week the run starts in a different location, at 9am and the runs start at 1 hour 30 minutes (usually with a one hour drop out) and get 10 minutes longer each week aiming to get you perfectly to the spring marathons particularly London and Milton Keynes
We have the plan now on the club web site (may be subject to some small changes). These runs are ideal not just for marathon runners but anyone who fancies a longer run on a Sunday morning
All the details at:

As well as these runs we will also have the Sunday Step Up runs as well, details to be confirmed
Do not forget for the Marathon runners we also have for paid club members a free Marathon clinic evening in February - a great evening for you to learn many marathon tips and ask any questions you have with an expert - details under 'race discounts'

New Beginners groups approaching

After each  beginners group we as those taking part to complete a survey and we have just had the feedback from the last groups with comments like:
  • No none at all ... I love Redway Runners ??????‍♀️????????????
  • None it's a fantastic club and Steve Boothby has been amazing
  • Annette was brilliant as a running coach. She was positive and humorous, understanding that not everyone is a born runner.... Thanks for helping me reach my goals!
  • No. I thought the beginners course was amazing. The support and encouragement from Annette was fantastic. Her friendly and helpful follow up emails between sessions really helped me to keep going. The course greatly exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone. It was so inclusive and I think that was the best thing about it.
  • No Annette was amazing...
  • Seriously impressed and would recommend to everyone.... You're all amazing!!
  • No It is excellent
  • Just keep doing what you are doing which seems to develop a real group togetherness and enthusiasm.
  • I think you are the best :)
  • For my experience to date, you have nailed it :)
  • To be honest, can't suggest anything. For a beginners course, I'd really recommend it. The atmosphere was very friendly, not pressurised and all the helpers really lived up to their name and were equally great and encouraging! Personally would like to express massive thanks to both Lucinda and Spencer!!
  • Course was brilliant. The support and encouragement from the leaders and helpers is second to none. I was a complete non runner and now I have the bug. Did my 1st step up last night and it didn't disappoint. I'm proud to have joined the green army
So if you want to start running or return to running what are you waiting for, January sees seven new free beginners groups starting in Redway Runners working to the free 5K MK parkrun on Saturday 18 March, which will be a special day for all 'graduating' that day - but do not delay get signed up as we expect all the courses to be full by the time the course start - that will be all 350 places available!!

MK Winter Half

Well hope everyone had fantastic runs at the Milton Keynes Winter half, results showing 171 from the club finished - heard of lots of PBs and also many first time half marathons today achieved. Nice to see they had kept the water feature from last year and just moved it to a different location!

Well done to our Zero To Hero team on achieving the latest milestone of the half marathon, on-wards to the full marathon next - but enjoy some time to celebrate how far you have come, not just 13.1 miles.

What can you say about the support out on the course it was amazing having your name shouted all the way round. those green tops really make a difference.

So thanks to all those that helped today especially those that came forward after a late call to man the Water station at mile 3 and mile 9 - you did great, especially shout to Peter Galvin who managed every thing for us at the Water stop.

Bootneck Challenge, entry discount 30%

Have received the information below about the Bootneck Challenge on 18th and 19th of February in Peterborough an Obstacle Course Race and paid club members get a massive 30% of entry fees with the code below

More info at:
The obstacles, although designed by Former Royal Marines , are ALL achievable when address by a team. Our ethos is firmly in line with people having fun and completing the course, not paying money for a course they only half finish.
The course is either a 5km run or a 10 km loop of the same course. Some of the obstacles are differentiated by difficulty so some runners are opting for the 10km to really test themselves.
We are willing to offer a massive 30% discount on all bookings. I can issue you with a code for use when booking and the 30% will be taken off the cost.
Not only do all runners receive an awesome T shirt and medal, but they can also be satisfied that they have completed an OCR event that will achievable for all.....with some help!

MK50 Icons - special club run

On Bank Holiday Monday 2 January 2017, we are planning a special club run starting at 10am from the barriers to David Lloyd,

The aim will be to run from Willen Lake to the Station and take photos of runners at MK Icons, we have all the planning done and the route would be about 6 miles, but so as many people can take part as possible you will be able to drop out of the group of runners at any time (once your photo has been taken) and of course we will take the direct route back from the station, or you could arrange transport.

The whole idea of the run will be on fun then publishing the 50 icons photos of runners in club green tops

Anyway, to make this work well would be great to have three or more 'photographers' on bikes, already have two with Tim and Laura, so if you can help please let Martin know on

Will post more info on this special truly iconic run in the coming weeks

Social Evening at MK Lightning Ice Hockey – Saturday 21 January 2017

For the third year running we are organising a Redway Runner Social evening to watch the Milton Keynes Lightning ice hockey team.  The match is on Saturday 21 January 2017 versus the Guildford Flames.  The game starts at 7pm at the ice rink just behind “Argos” and “Toys R Us” near MK Central Station. MK Lightning are having an excellent season, being 2nd in the league at the time of writing.  Let’s see if we can beat the 135 who attended last year!
We have managed to get an excellent discount on ticket prices.  Adults will cost £10 (instead of the normal £15) and children under 16 years of age will be charged at £5 (instead of the normal £8.00).  Those who have never been to ice hockey before are in for an evening of a fast paced, hard hitting game with the odd fight here and there!  The game will be over at about 9.15pm.  There is a splendid bar and good food and beverage facilities.  We will all be seated in a block together which will add to the fun.
To book your seats please can you let Kevin Orchard ( know how many tickets you would like?  Bank transfers to Redway Runners account:
  • Sort code 301553
  • Number 42390360
  • Name; Redway Runners
(reference “ice hockey” please)

or a cheque (payable to 'Redway Runners') to Martin will secure your seats. Absolute closing date will be Wednesday 18 January at 5pm.

If anybody fancies it, we can skate for free after the game until 11pm, you just need to pay for skate hire on the night at £2.50 each.  For those not up for a bit of skating we will move over to Wetherspoons at 171 Midsummer Boulevard for a drink or two after the game.
