Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running workshop

If any members are interested in this please also let us know
--
Please find details of a Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running workshop taking place in Aylesbury on the 18th September 2016, click here.

This is a great opportunity for your club/group to make sessions open to runners who are visually impaired. Please note that you do not need to be a qualified coach or leader to attend this course so please circulate to all members within your club/group as well as club volunteers – we will take you through everything you need to know about guiding a blind or visually impaired runner.

We know of local visually impaired people who would love to take up running, run in a race or take part in parkrun events – following this workshop there will be an introductory session to introduce Guide Runners to VI runners.

To book directly on to this course please click on this link – Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running Workshop

Monday Evening runs are moving from 1 August

Our Monday night runs are very popular and, as many people will be aware, we have been experiencing some issues around parking and access to Livingstone Drive at peak periods which has affected both us and others.

To address this, we have been looking for a better home for the Monday night runs. We are really pleased to tell you that from August the evening runs will be starting from the new Decathlon shop in Rooksley (Patriot Drive, MK138PU). This offers free parking in the area, the Costa coffee nearby is open until 19:30.

The meeting point for signing in and announcements will be inside the store which will really help in the cold/dark/wet (Pretty much all year round then!)

Our run leads are busy at the moment scouting out the best routes - making sure we have safe and lit areas with a minimal number of road crossings. As soon as we have these finalised we will let you know

We will be keeping the current format of our Monday runs so to confirm that from the 1 August 2016 the following runs will start from the Decathlon store

At 18:00 we have:
  • Step Up - A 35 minute easy paced step up run

At 19.00 we have 3 runs:
  • Social Run - 4 mile loop back run with a nominated tail runner. Aimed at anyone running 10 minute miles and quicker
  • Club Run - 4 mile set route at your own pace with no loop backs. Suitable for all but people will need to know the route
  • Step Up Run – 3 mile loop back run at an easier pace. Aimed at anyone running 10 minute and 30 second miles and over

THIS CHANGE DOES NOT AFFECT ANY OTHER EVENING OR DAYTIME RUNS

UK Club trip - Torbay

Fantastic UK club trip last weekend to the 25th Torbay half marathon.

Most of us arrived Friday night and had Fish and Chips overlooking Babbacombe bay.

Saturday would not be the same without a trip to parkrun and we went out to the Parke parkrun - a cross country route on National Trust land - a very challenging course with some big hills.

Sunday was the big event with about 17 of us running and many watching - the race started in Paignton and went to Torbay and back, twice - a nice few hills included on route. Lovely well run event.

Following the event we got this lovely message from a fellow runner, Wendy 'Please could you say a big "Thank You" to Carol Downs. She held my hand over the finish line and kept me going. I can't believe I got 2.08 at Torquay Half, she was really fantastic, she just would not let me give up. I only started running last November, I don't have any race experience except VLM. I sped up a little too soon and didn't think I could keep going to the end. I am thrilled with my time and it's all thanks to Carol.' Well done Carol

Newport Pagnell Carnival

Thank you so much to all the people who cut, painted, blew up balloons, designed items and turned up on the day today at Newport Pagnell carnival. The float looked amazing, shame the heavens opened but I think Nathan kept our spirits up

Unfortunately, we were near the back of the parade so most people had emptied their pennies before we got there but we still managed £75 for the 'Haemophilia Society'.

It was a great day which cannot be attributed to any one person, there are so many talents in this club and goodwill from people who gave their time to use them.

Thank you again all, unfortunately no prizes, so get your thinking caps on for how we can win one next year.

Special thanks to Bakro International Transport for supplying the float a driver and all round assistance

Great British Beer Festival

Last year we had a great Redway Runners day out at this so thought we should do it again with the Great British Beer Festival at the Kensington Olympia London on Thurs 11 August. Tickets are £11 for non CAMRA members.

Train is £16 return if we buy tickets in groups of 4 and use the groupsave discount. James Dwight is happy to book train tickets and take money either on the day or in advance online payment transfer. Plan would be to leave MK around 12 and return home on the last direct train at 20:50.

If interested contact James Dwight
