DLRR Eggheads

Well the truth was finally revealed and the programme we have all been waiting for was shown on TV and the DLRR Eggheads did remarkably well with some very tough questions.

We held a specail screening at David Lloyd and around 45 people attended.

We started the evening with a chat from the team captain, Kevin who gave us an insight to the programme and the day of filming last October.

If you missed it you can see the episode on the BBC iPlayer at:

We need your help!

Sport England are conducting research into why people participate in sport in a club environment and are particularly interested in gaining insight from individual sports such as athletics. The research involves telephone conversations with members of sports clubs and they are hoping that the research company could contact some of our runners as they feel David Lloyd Redway Runners are 'clearly the club is doing something right as our membership has grown and we have won numerous awards and they want to understand what that ‘something’ is'.

It would be really great if you can help Sport England in this, so if you can please contact, Harry on or on 0116 2293300 that would be great, more info on the research is below, alternatively contact me with your name, contact number and some best times to be contacted and I can pass on
CFE Research are conducting some work on behalf of Sport England to understand how an individuals’ ‘sporting journey’ relates to their decision to join a sports club. The primary objectives of the research are as follows:
  1. To understand in detail people’s motivations for joining sports clubs.
  2. To understand the ‘sporting journeys’ of a sample of sports club members.
As part of this research we are undertaking telephone interviews with members of sports clubs and Richard thought that your club and its members would make great candidates for this research.
I was wondering if any of your members would be interested in participating in a short telephone interview? Interviews will last approximately 30-40 minutes and will be undertaken at a time that is convenient to interviewees. Indicatively interviewees will be asked the following questions:
  • Their participation and experience in sport at a younger age
  • Whether they have always participated in sport
  • When they joined their current club and why
  • Whether they have always been part of a club and why
  • What they like about their current / past clubs and what could be improved
  • Whether their family members are part of a sports club
We are hoping to conduct interviews over the next couple of weeks, therefore it would be great if you could let me know if any of your members would be willing to be interviewed as soon as possible.

Bank Holiday Monday

Tour of MK 2014

Been asked to pass on the information for this years, Tour of Milton Keynes
As we are only a couple of weeks away from the start of the tour, would you be kind enough to distribute some of the info below to your club members.
I have had several queries over start times and thought it would be easier to get you each to distribute amongst your club members.
here are some postcodes/directions:
Sunday 10am Tattenhoe Park 11k

Several races will be held, with start times dependent upon the tour position.
Wednesday 7pm. Brickhill Woods Hill race
Venue: Longslade Picnic area, Church road. This car park is 1 mile along the road from Bow Brcikhill church (MK17 9LF), on the left hand side. Parking is very limited so please car share if possible, otherwise park on the verge of the road when the car park is full. (Please note, no changing or toilet facilities)

Buffet provided for all tour entrants, and presentations will take place once final timings organised.
Tour entrants will also be able to collect a 2014 tour vest - we have aimed to get a wide selection of sizes..but stock of each size is limited so we unfortunatley can't guarantee that you get the size you want!
Tour numbers and timing chips will be available for collection at Tattenhoe from will be present at all races and will take entries on the night/issue race numbers etc for those not doing the full tour.
All races will be marked with race chalk on the floor, or ticker tape etc..and we will aim to get marshalls at key locations so that no one gets lost!
many thanks,

MK Infinity Run

On Saturday 13 September 2014, 32 local runners will face a challenge of running 100 miles within 24 hours to test themselves to the limits of human endurance while raising money for local charities.

8 runners will attempt the 100 miles as a solo effort and the remainder running distances varying from 6 – 56 miles in team relay
Would anyone in DLRR be able to look after an aid station on the day - these may be for quite a long stint, but you would be helping the runners achieve the goals.

Head torches

Now the evenings are starting to get darker, you need to start thinking about head torches, as these will be needed soon, if you already have one may want to check that it is working OK, if you have not got one then think about investing in a head torch - but where to start!!
So we asked our members on the DLRR Facebook for there comments and below is what we got - none of it is recommendations from DLRR but hope the info helps:
Jamie Farmer I use this one from Silva. Good coverage of light with 2 different brightness’s, can be angled and has the option for flashing or permanent light.
Shaun Kirtley This one is excellent. They did not have the rechargeable one when I got mine
Glenn Dickinson I bought an Alpkit Gamma headtorch last year ( ). It has lots of nice functionality (rear light, option to choose between three different colours of small LED plus one higher powered LED if required) all for £15 (only available via Alpkit website I think but not a problem). Haven't needed to change the batteries yet.
Salima Keswani Ditto Alphkit Gamma. I used mine to walk the dog and do the ponies last winter so in used every night and I am still on the same set of batteries. Costco have a mountain on head touch/clip touch type things in at the moment (on your left as you walk though the door) but I have no idea if they are any good.
Veritie Yates I use a more powerful version of this one out on the trails but this is more than adequate for the redways!! (10% discount code with DLRR)
Abi Gooch All I know is, the one I used in the MdS was rubbish compared to other peoples but I may have been going through a 'dark' period!
Cassandra Bird I've got the same one as Shaun Kirtley, cannot fault it.
Angela Norris I have a petzl tikka - takes rechargeable or normal batteries. No problems (it has a spot light, in white or red, flashing light or dispersed light via a slide down cover... It also angles so you can blind people - or not!)
Ian Stevens Ditto, Angela! I have the Petzl Tikka Plus 2. It's great: full beam, dipped, red, flashing or not... it does everything and is comfortable. Ebay £23.95 or Amazon (red band) at £30.46.
Angela Norris Mine I think is the Tikka 2 (They have a less powerful tikkina in lime green LOL!)
Paul Newton This is the one I use for training runs. I especially like the fact that the back of the light has a green glow to it, so people behind can see you. It's probably the best on the market at an affordable price. I've brought a couple and just carry the spare battery pack for my longer runs.
Happy for anyone to try mine out if they want....See More
Isla Porter This running business isn't cheap lol!!
Mark Sharp This is very good for the price.

Regents Park 10K

Been asked to pass on details of this event, which is the day after the Dirt Half Marathon, more at:
After Adoption has, for the last five years, organised a hugely successful Royal Parks run, with the last three being in the beautiful Regent’s Park. The 2014 Regent’s Park 10k has now been launched and is ready for entries. This year’s event is on Sunday 16 November.
Please forward to all your running club members and everyone you know who may be interested. It’s a great run – three laps of a flat loop affording the chance of a personal best time. Every year we’ve been lucky with a perfect sunny autumn morning.
As part of the event we provide chip timing, a measured route (UKA licenced), goody bags, marshals, distance markers, water stations, baggage store, medals and T-shirt.
It’s a terrific 10k for seasoned runners and newbies alike! And, it raises much needed funds for After Adoption to provide support services to the many children and families struggling with adoption.

Important DLRR- EGM

At the clubs last AGM, a proposal was made by a club member to change the clubs name to 'Redway Runners' it was agreed at the meeting that this would be investigated to see the amount of work required and any significant issues as well as giving the club the opportunity to brief key stakeholders (ie David Lloyd, UKA).

This work has now taken place and the committee feel this would be a beneficial change for the club and open up in the longer term some new opportunities, this does require a change to the clubs constitution and to do this we have to hold a meeting which all paid members of the club have the opportunity to attend and vote on the change, for this we have to provide at least 21 day notice.

This meeting will be held upstairs at David Lloyd on Tuesday 23 September at 19:00.

If the proposal is agreed, then the expected timetable is that the clubs name would change from the 1 November 2014.

The committee have agreed that if the change does go through, then we would like to contribute to members who wanted to purchase new club kit and from a date of the meeting to be confirmed to the 31 December 2014, then the club would offer each paid member the opportunity to purchase one club running top, (ie tee shirt, ladies running tee, vest or children's tee) for a reduction of £5 off the normal price
