Update; 15 October 2015

OK Redway Runners. Here’s your chance to be part of something special that will change your life forever. The Committee has decided to support a suggestion that we create a 2016 Redway Runners calendar. We’re now looking for members to submit photographs that can be used in the calendar. And yes, it will be a cheeky calendar along the lines of the now famous Women’s Institute model. So get your thinking caps on and come up with a photograph of yourself, or you with a group of friends, that both captures the spirit of the Redway Runners and you yourself (maybe even Simon Baker with his trombone or Jonathan Clements with a post box :-)).
Please e-mail photographs to Kevin Orchard ( by 5pm on Sunday 1 November 2015. There are a few ground rules:

1. Photographs must be as tasteful as possible and capture the spirit that makes our club so good. All “abilities” welcome.
2. Think carefully about the backdrop and try not to get arrested while posing smile emoticon.
3. Please feel free to submit as many photographs as you like. The format they need to be saved in is High Resolution JPEG.
4. Please let us know when you submit the pictures if you have any preference for a specific month of the year that you would like to appear in. We’re looking for a wide range of pictures to cover the year so Easter, Christmas and Halloween etc. pictures would be most welcome.
5. Please do not post or circulate your pictures on social media. It would be good to keep them a surprise until the calendar is released.

The decision on which pictures make the final cut will be made by the Committee. All profits will be donated to this year’s charity, Bravery Boxes.

We plan to have the calendars available for sale by 1 December. Once we are certain we have enough interest to go ahead we’ll be advertising a pre-sale so that you can ensure you get your copy before they sell out. After all, it will be a limited edition collector’s item.

So, don’t be shy. Use those imaginations and get clicking.

No weekly mail next week

No weekly mail next week, next mail due Thursday 29 October - we may also have a delay in dealing with mails and requests between the 20 and 27 October.

Please be careful

Just a reminder to be careful and avoid running out alone...On Wednesday 14 October at 13.15pm an adult female was out walking along the North Willen lake (just near the bench where the H5 bridge crosses the lakes-trim trail side) when a male approached her and grabbed her breast over clothing and then moved it under clothing.

He ran away in the direction of Siemens. The offender was white, 25-28 yrs, 5ft 4 approx, slim, scruffy brown hair, clean shaven wearing a red waterproof jacket and plain jogging bottoms. Grey/white trainers and a dark blue drawstring bag on his back, he spoke with an Eastern European accent.

There will be a press release soon, if you see him please call 101 and quote URN 791 of 14th October or contact Rena Richards but please be careful as this was in broad daylight.

MK parkrun pacing

Who fancies a little parkrun pacing? Two weeks time on Saturday 24 October. No volunteer points, just for the fun of pushing people to achieve their PB. Let's try and cover all abilities so if you are free then let Paul Woodward know , either contact him direct or reply and will forward mail on with the time you prefer

Runners Guidelines

We have reviewed our guidelines for running at club runs,it is worth taking a moment to read them and make sure you understand them (scroll down the page a little) - we want everyone to enjoy running with the club, they are at:

We have two fantastic opportunities for people to help out on some admin functions within the club.

If you have a spare couple of hours a month to help out, we are looking for someone to look after race discounts for the club and / or someone to design and manage a new initiative on certificates we are hoping to introduce

If you would be interested then full training and the usual rates of pay would apply (zero, but plenty of job satisfaction!) so either comment below or drop an email to;

Stephen Down Under - McLaren Vale Half Marathon

I asked Stephen Dearn about his trip to Australia for a half marathon he said:

'So what do you do in the build up to a half marathon? In my case you take a 24 hour journey to the other side of the world, fight jet lag by going to a football match that evening accompanied by a few beers, and then go on not one, but two micro brewery tours/tastings the day before the run! A fairly appropriate build up to a half marathon run by Hardy's winemakers I guess.
It may seem obvious to say but the first thing I felt having turned up for the start of the race was where are all the green shirts?! It's funny how much you get used to always having people from your running club at most events you turn up to!
There was a sense of familiarity however, being as the race was run along the cycle paths albeit the views of the vineyards are slightly better than the views from our redways!
So the race started and the first part involved a 2.5 mile run out from the Hardy's winery past a breakers yard full of old American muscle cars and Australian 'yutes' and back to the winery. From there we ran out along the 'Shiraz Trail' which meant about 4 miles out along the vineyards and wineries and back again.
Despite my brilliant preparations for the race I found myself getting to somewhere between 9 and 10 miles and being on pace to at least match my PB. Then just as quick as I thought a PB could be on it was gone again as my lack of training took effect!
All in all though, a finish only 2 minutes off my PB in the overcast but humid Aussie conditions is one I'm happy with.
And finally to the best part of the event....the medal. I really like the bunch of grapes design especially being as they're the right colour grapes! I will definitely hang it with pride amongst my other medals.'

Oxford Half Marathon

Well done Ruj and Jenny at the Oxford Half marathon on sunday

Regents Park 10K

Been asked to let you know about this event:
Our biggest event of the year, the Regent’s Park 10k, is one month today! It would be great to have more runners from your running club there.
Would it be possible for you to share the event with your members and helps us to support more children and adults affected by adoption?
Best wishes
