New Step Up to Beginners course & updates

Step Up to Beginners
We are really pleased to let you know that we are adding a further beginners course in September with Glenn, but this one will be a little different, as this free course provides a very gentle introduction to running for those who want to try but feel they are too slow to join our standard beginners groups. you can read more about slightly different course and how to register at:

If:anyone has registered for our other courses and feels this one would be better please let us know and we can transfer you to it and free a place from our waiting lists.

Workplace Group
As you probably know we have an exclusive work place beginners course starting in September with Santander and Deloitte's, pleased to let you know that ICAEW (institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales) have now joined this course as well - only a few places left on this course so if you work for any of these three companies and want to start running register now..

Daytime Thursday course
Our Daytime course on Thursdays currently has places available, but do register soon

Beginners group helpers
Now with 5 beginners groups starting in the beginning of September the run leaders would really appreciate your help - if you can please help any sessions and support new fellow runners to us then please join this Facebook group and please do a post saying which group you can hep with

Club runs Update

We have reviewed and updated the club runs on the web site with the main changes:
  • New Starter Saturday run  added with Steve Boothby also a beginners group homework session
  • The new Step Up Sunday run added with Helen Wiggins
  • We have added the new Thursday lunchtime run that starts 8 September with Douglas Yabsley
  • The Explorer run with Tim Giffen is now permanent and is included - the page with locations for future weeks will be updated shortly

You will find all the runs listed at:

At the moment we have 23 runs a week (September sees another 6 runs start - 5 beginners and the Lunchtime run) should be able to find something to suit most people - but these can only be delivered with the run leaders giving up their valuable time - so a big thank you to all of them

SEAA Road Relays

Would you like to take part in one of of the most highly rated road relay events in the UK.

In recent years people such a Mo Farah and Andy Vernon have taken part in this prestigious event. Does anyone fancy joining a team in this highly competitive event and running with some of the countries top runners over 6000m at the Bedford Autodrome in Bedford on Sunday the 25 September.

All runners must be first claim with Redway Runners and UKA registered.

More details at:

If you are interested in being involved please contact Paul Mizon, who will be leading this for the club contact Paul at:

Pleased also to let club members know that the club is now affiliated with the South of England Athletic Association

Bank Holiday Monday  - extra club 'Fun' run

With the August Bank Holiday approaching, 29 August, we will be doing an extra club run and we will add in a bit of fun!

We will be meeting at the Willen Eastlake at 10:00 (near to Harvester pub - not the pub gym side).

It will be a run for about one hour - with the idea of having a bit of fun - you may not want to wear new running shoes!! This run will be suitable for all

Afterwards the Harvester  have an offer for us of unlimited Tea/Coffee and a Bacon roll, veg sausage for the vegetarians for £3.

This replaces the usual 9.30am Monday Step up run - the evening club runs are still taking place from the Decathlon store.

Club Trip - Isle of Wight

This weekend sees the second club UK trip for 2016 and just over 20 of us are off to the Isle of Wight.

On Saturday we are heading up to Ryde for the Medina IOW parkrun - which is on an alternative course.
Then on Sunday it is the Isle of Wight half marathon (anyone going who is not on the Facebook group set up for this trip please do let us know).

If you fancy a club trip then we do four trips a year with two in the UK and two overseas - next trip is to Slovenia in October and the first trip of 2017 will be to Santa Pola in Spain in January - still time to book all the details are at:

May be a small delay in replys to e-mails and questions over the weekend

Green mile

For the Wednesday morning club run we did the Green mile with 29 out including Lauren, Olli and Ian who did the timing - thank you.

First home was Genji who has the second fastest time and only the second person to go under 5 minutes. First lady was Nicola Thompson

Well done all all the results at:

On the Run with Paul Woodward

We have been on the run with Paul Woodward you can read what he has to say - and hardly no smutty talk or comments at all

You will find a number of other Redway Runners stories at:

NSPCC MK Half Marathon and 10K

The NSPCC Half and 10K is quickly approaching now on Sunday 25 September, we will again be managing a water station on the course we should be behind David Lloyd on the canal again, so we believe the runners will go through this point twice! (if doing the half) and just before the 'ascent' of Campbell Park hill

We really need about 12 helpers, last year helpers got a goodie bag, you would be needed from 9.30am for set up, Jenny is leading this for the club again and if you can help please let Jenny know by mailing her at

This will also be the club cheering point with the club flags etc.

Remember if you have not entered yet and are a club member then a discount code is in the club weekly mail.

Again this year we will have a club theme and back by popular demand, it will be a reunion of the club band - do get you instruments finally out of tune - grab your saucepans and the old band will be back with a few new members as well performing all over MK - badly.

About 15 minutes before the race start we will do a big green group photo

In the evening we will meet in the Wetherspoons behind Santander for a drink or two to celebrate from 7pm

Step Up Sundays are up and running

Last Sunday saw the start of our Step Up Sunday runs with Helen and an incredible 41 of were out for the first Sunday Step-up.

Thanks to Nathan for tail running. They all covered between 3 and 5 Miles, well done everyone.

Beat the Barge report

Beat the Barge was just a week ago- but you can remember the memories with this report from one of our fantastic sponsors - Gareth Snelson from Inspiring Health Solutions

Love MK

Had the request from the Parks Trust with a good reminder
The Parks Trust are running a Love MK litter campaign and we are contacting all groups in MK who use our parks to ensure their members and participants dispose of litter properly. We often come across water bottles and sports bottles around the leisure routes and red ways so are contacting all off the sports clubs to remind their members to put these in the bin or take them home with them.

Have a great summer and thanks for your support!

Sinead said 'It was a tough day with the heat & humidity, getting chased by cows and battling head high nettles, brambles tangled in my scalp & managing stiles after about 45 miles. But I had an awesome time and am still buzzing & smiling from the race'

well done Sinead

Leutasch 8K race

Well done to Franzi Florac from the club who ran a very hot and hilly 8k race in Leutasch, Austria, as she passed the finish line they gave the Redway Runners a shout out - twice! Franzi said 'Can't recommend the race enough: beautiful scenery, friendly team and a good challenge'

Oakwell Hall parkrun

JP and Jude Srivalsan on tour at Oakwell Hall parkrun, Birstall, West Yorkshire - Well done

Footy is coming!

Creaking of aged bones can be heard. Men well past their sell by date are trying to recapture past glories. Old boots are being dusted down with rigour. The smell of sweat and massage potions linger….no we are not talking about a Redway Runners Boys weekend to a nightclub, but rather the inaugural Redway Runners Football Club charity match versus the Merchant Bankers of Santander.
In a few weeks a crack squad will undergo an intensive training camp, working out set pieces and how not to pull a ‘hammy’ after two minutes, before retiring to the pub in preparation for the big event which takes place on Sunday 4 September at 1.30pm   So please, Green Army members, we would love for you to make your way to the Recreation Ground, Castlethorpe Road, Hanslope, Milton Keynes, MK19 7HQ in full club colours and clear throats to witness this magnificent and unprecedented occasion. All monies collected from the raffle on the day will go to the clubs Charity of the Year and food will be provided in the Cock Pub in the centre of the village post game.
Who needs the prima donnas of the Premier League when you have some old kickers from MK!!!
