Beat the Barge

Well that was a warm one!

Well done to the 73 pioneers who took part in our inaugural Beat The Barge over (just short of!) five miles

Our very own Paul CJ romped home first in a fantastic time of 30.28 with Sinead Bradbeer first lady home (and third overall) in 33.11....great running on a warm afternoon

Despite some early teething problems I think we all enjoyed ourselves....and thankfully we had no one trying to swim any of the course! The weather played it's part and plenty stayed behind to enjoy the afternoon sunshine

Thanks to all the volunteers on the day without who we couldn't put an event on and thanks to everyone who ran, we hopefully made a nice profit for our charity of the year, Bravery Boxes

Full results are now on the club website and can be found at:

Club feedback

Always nice when we get positive comments on the club - thanks to Neville for taking the time to write in with the below - great to know we must be doing something right.

I came along with my daughter to see the end of the best the barge and it looked pretty good, well done. Thank you to you and the team for getting me back into running, it's been many years since I pounded the pavements and I have to say I haven't had such fun in a long while.
I know that I am fatter, slower and not quite as focused as I was in my teens but the sheer spirit of the Redway Runners is absolutely amazing. I am going to miss my first Sunday run for three weeks tomorrow and I am totally gutted !!! Unfortunately a family engagement is taking me away.
I was always fearful that I wouldn't achieve the heights of my youth and that I would turn up to a running club where I would be left behind bringing up the rear, but the way that I have been welcomed to the fold has been fantastic. There is a truly amazing spirit in the group and it can be described in one word 'inclusive' , it doesn't matter who you are, where you are from or how fast you can run, the Redway Runners are for you.
I have done the social on Monday, the Sunday special, the Thursday handicap and Jonathan's special hills and they were all fantastic and catered for all abilities. And to top it all I made the mistake of attending Macs core fitness which ensured that I was stiff and sore for at least two days 😀
Thank you and well done and long may it continue. In the word of Mr Timberlake 'I'm lovin it'

More feedback

We also got this great feedback from Mark who has joined the club recently
I have to post to say a massive thank you to the Redway Runners and the people involved in it, I have a few challenges I'm looking forward to ahead of me but thanks to you guys I have gone from 4h 7min to a 3h 20min marathon and getting faster/stronger plus never being able to run faster then average 7m 40s m/m on shorter distance to last night doing an average of 6m 35s m/m over 3 1/2 miles which all in all was way beyond every expectation I ever had.

But the best bit is it's been fun and I have met some great people, on every session I've never felt out of place or made to feel unwelcome. It was once put to me that the club is a social club that happens to like running and I couldn't agree more, it doesn't matter who you are or how good a runner you are you will fit in.

Fiona's Running journey

Update from Fiona one of our beginners -
Just thought I would thank you for all your training in the beginners group and let you know  we did it – we completed the city2surf 14K!

Great race whole of Sydney out watching or participating – children out with hoses and cookies to support the runners, bands all along the route so great fun,  finished at Bondi beach with a BBQ perfect weather 18 degrees all day.
The final picture includes other colleagues who also used to work at OU but have moved to Australia – unfortunately our Redway Runners tee-shirts were in a shipping container promise to wear them next year and next year going to improve our time :)
Thanks again to you and all the support from Redway Runners
Best wishes -  Fiona

St Albans Stampede - 12hr Enduro

Been asked to pass on details of this event the St Albans Stampede - 12hr Enduro - Saturday 5 September 2015:
I just wanted to get in touch to introduce myself as the Race Director of the St Albans Stampede - a new ultra running event in Hertfordshire. I'm also on the associate committee of the St Albans Striders running club. I hope you don't mind the direct email.
As mentioned, the Stampede is a new type of ultra running event for our community and something that I am passionate about, having competed in a number of ultra marathons throughout the years. I'm delighted to be able to introduce this type of event locally.
Full details can be found via the following links:
I would be very grateful if you could share the event with the runners in your club and hopefully some of them will get together and form a team for the relay event. Of course, I'd be equally pleased if some decided to take on the challenge solo!
As a special incentive, to drive awareness and interest in our inaugural year, I'm also happy to offer a £20 discount off all entries. This means that single entry is only £27 (normally £47) and the 4-person relay is £126 (normally £146). The other entrant options on Active Training World will have the same £20 discount - please advise your members to use the following code when entering:
Thanks again in advance for supporting our event. I'm more than happy to return the favour for any of your future races.
One final thing ... a percentage of profits will be going to The Woodland Trust, who have allowed us to use the beautiful Heartwood Forest as the venue, so this may be of additional interest to your members.
Best, Nick Bradley, Co-Race Director - St Albans Stampede
