Redway Runners at MK50 - Stories Needed

Not long now until our MK50 celebrations begin, and last throughout 2017. We already have our ‘MK50 Icon Run’ on 2nd January and the branded hoodies on sale at the club shop.

We're pleased to announce that we are launching an MK50 page on the club website and we want to fill it with your stories and photos!

Will the big number mean something to you in 2017 - running related or otherwise? Are you:

- turning 50;
- Running your 50th parkrun/half marathon/marathon;
- Going on holiday for 50 days;
- Buying your 50th pair of running shoes?!

We also want to include 50 people who have a ‘claim to fame’. Again, it doesn’t need to be running related so have you:

- been on Blind date;
- a relative who played in the Open;
- been on TV;
- met the Queen/Mo Farah/David Beckham;
- Anything else you're allowed to share?!

Don’t be shy, please send your stories and photos to - we can't wait to hear from you!

Want to un-subscribe

We want to make sure that only those who want to receive this mail continue to get it. Plus it will help to keep club costs down.

So if you want to unsubscribe then unsubscribe from this list or click unsubscribe from the link at the bottom of the mail. We really will not be offended

Well done to Kerry Simon Rena Simon and Sarah

Redway Runners 12Ks of Christmas

Well done to everyone who completed the Xmas challenge. Impressed by everyone's dedication.

On the evidence submitted so far it looks like Christmas Eve was the most popular day for running although an amazing 66% of you were running on Christmas Day........I take my cracker hat off to you all :)

Special well done to Nikki Torrie who either misread the name of the race or was feeling energetic and managed over 13 miles on her run, according to a Daily Mail article (and we all know we can believe those) 13 miles is enough to burn off a whole Xmas dinner

Have emailed all those who have submitted evidence so far and to confirm that your hard earned medals will be available for collection at any club run that either myself or Martin is at.

If anyone can not collect in person then please email and we can make alternative arrangements

Finally, we will be launching a special new virtual run soon so if you enjoyed this one watch this space for details and entries to open!

On the run with Simon Navin

This week we have been on the run with Simon Navin and we find out why he has been appearing on TV so much recently and you can read what Simon has to say at:

MK50 Icons - special club run

On Bank Holiday Monday 2 January 2017, we are planning a special club run starting at 10am from the barriers to David Lloyd,

The aim will be to run from Willen Lake to the Station and take photos of runners at MK Icons, we have all the planning done and the route would be about 6 miles, but so as many people can take part as possible you will be able to drop out of the group of runners at any time (once your photo has been taken) and of course we will take the direct route back from the station, or you could arrange transport.

The whole idea of the run will be on fun then publishing the 50 icons photos of runners in club green tops

Anyway, to make this work well would be great to have three or more 'photographers' on bikes, already have two with Tim and Laura, so if you can help please let Martin know on

Will post more info on this special truly iconic run in the coming weeks

Social Evening at MK Lightning Ice Hockey – Saturday 21 January 2017

For the third year running we are organising a Redway Runner Social evening to watch the Milton Keynes Lightning ice hockey team.  The match is on Saturday 21 January 2017 versus the Guildford Flames.  The game starts at 7pm at the ice rink just behind “Argos” and “Toys R Us” near MK Central Station. MK Lightning are having an excellent season, being 2nd in the league at the time of writing.  Let’s see if we can beat the 135 who attended last year!
We have managed to get an excellent discount on ticket prices.  Adults will cost £10 (instead of the normal £15) and children under 16 years of age will be charged at £5 (instead of the normal £8.00).  Those who have never been to ice hockey before are in for an evening of a fast paced, hard hitting game with the odd fight here and there!  The game will be over at about 9.15pm.  There is a splendid bar and good food and beverage facilities.  We will all be seated in a block together which will add to the fun.
To book your seats please can you let Kevin Orchard ( know how many tickets you would like?  Bank transfers to Redway Runners account:
  • Sort code 301553
  • Number 42390360
  • Name; Redway Runners
(reference “ice hockey” please)

or a cheque (payable to 'Redway Runners') to Martin will secure your seats. Absolute closing date will be Wednesday 18 January at 5pm.

If anybody fancies it, we can skate for free after the game until 11pm, you just need to pay for skate hire on the night at £2.50 each.  For those not up for a bit of skating we will move over to Wetherspoons at 171 Midsummer Boulevard for a drink or two after the game.
