MK Festival of running

As the MK running festival in March is approaching DLRR will hopefully have the usual cheering point at the Cross Keys (runners pass this spot twice) - Michelle is going to be looking after it for the club and will have the flags - so come down and cheer the green runners

Also on the morning we will have a meeting place and get the group photo

The evening all have to come to the Wetherspoons near to the V6 with the medal and celebrate or help the runners celebrate.

If you have not entered and are a DLRR member do not forget the discount code - see further down the mail and save an extra 15%.

If you have not got a green DLRR tee yet now would be a good time to get one ordered

Finally - if you are not listed on the who racing where page on the club web site let us know and we will add you.

More details nearer the event

Paced Sunday Run

For the club run on Sunday 16 Feb we are doing something extra and different!!

It will be a paced run as well - we will meet at Caldecotte Lake (water depending) and then you will be able to do multiple laps in paced groups - great to try your marathon pace for the length of the run, ie 2 hours.

So does anyone want to offer to be the pacer in a group and choose your time (ie run at xx min miles)

On the day for those that want to have a general run - we will also be running round the lake with loop backs for 2 hours (of course lots of high fives when we meet the pace groups)

You can of course just come and run for as long as you want to

Our new Evening beginners group starts

Our 16th Beginners group started on Tuesday night led by Gareth

MK Marathon help

If you are not running this years Milton Keynes Marathon or new MKM Half Marathon on 5th May we need you!

What better way of spending a few hours than supporting your fellow club mates and several thousand other runners by marshaling at this great local event. If you are keen to be involved and would like to manage a mile let us know.

Mile Managers will look after a mile of the course - they will need to be mobile so need a bike

You should also volunteer at:

DLRR Beginners graduate at MK parkrun

Well done to our evening beginners group with Russ who graduated at the MK parkrun on Saturday 18 January.

It was parkrun MK event 206 and 383 finishers and 100 (yes one hundred!!!) from the club finishing on the 4th birthday parkrun on an out and back route

Special mention to Michellle for giving up her run to be a marshal as the event was short of marshals and then standing in the cold for an hour so other could run (just what DLRR is all about)

February Social

David Lloyd Milton Keynes hosts a night of comedy - so this is going to be the February social

Funhouse Comedy Club presents a night of laughter on Friday 28th February bringing you three fantastic acts!

  • Steve Royle - A brilliant all-round entertainer and a regular support act for Peter Kay.
  • Andy Robinson - "An absolute joy to work with, very funny and relaxed" - Jo Brand.
  • Al Lubel - "A terrifically funny comedian" - David Letterman.

Doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 8.30pm, tickets are £10 per person

Half Term Family Fun Run

Thursday 20th 10am meet at David Lloyd Barriers.

David Lloyd Redway Runners are going to pilot a new idea in the February half term - This family fun run is for both parent and children during half-term. The session will last about 45 mins around Campbell Park (actual running 20-30 mins). This is a great way to introduce running in a group to our children and a bit of... a social.

Children under five are welcome to take their bikes (provided they are managed by parents). The event is open to all paid DLRR members. Parents must accompany their children at all times. We will give our little ones a good insight to parkrun also the up and coming Superhero fun run event on the 5th of May.

I suggest we bring a suitable snack and drinks as a reward (cake bakers welcome). Portia will lead the session, but would like to know who would be interested to be prepared for numbers. Please mail us if you are coming orlet us know any questions.

Improve your 5K time course

Our new 'Improve you 5K' time 10 week course started this week led by Spencer and Greame - looking forward to seeing what they can achieve

Century Hat Trick

We had a hat trick of centuries for the club in 3 days!!
  • Saturday 102 DLRR runners finish at the MK parkrun
  • Sunday 106 runners on the club Sunday run
  • Monday over 100 at the Monday night runs
And not a bad week either last week with amongst others:
* New Daytime beginners group started with Portia
* Beginners bike ride on Saturday with Trudie and the Birdy Bunch
* Our evening ...beginners group graduated and completed the MK parkrun
* We managed to sort a discount for the MK running Festival - this alone nearly pays your membership!!

This week's been good as well:
* New evening beginners group started with Gareth - course full
* New 'Improve your 5K' course started with Graeme and Spencer - course full
* Our monthly bike rides with Rich start this Sunday

Is it just me that is having trouble keeping with the pace!!!!

If you’ve got the January blues, if you’ve eaten too many mince pies, or if you just like running, then now is the time to book our Chiltern Warrior fun obstacle run taking part on 30th March. So you have just enough time to get fit (or fitter), get running and have maximum fun with this great course for a great cause, Chiltern Open Air Museum.  As you may know, we are a registered charity and rely on donations from the public and grant making bodies to keep our wonderful Chilterns heritage alive.

Find out more and book your first choice of wave now at  Book as an individual or as a team. Suitable for serious runners and beginners, with 5K or 10K options.
If you are not taking part, if would greatly help us if you could volunteer to marshall – morning or afternoon.

MultiSports Meeting

As all members of DLRR who renew their membership will automatically be included in the DLRR MultiSports Group, we thought it would be a good idea to hold group meeting on Sunday 9th Feb upstairs at David Lloyd, from 3pm. This meeting will be open to all members of DLRR, who have, or would like to, take part in MultiSports events, such as triathlons, duathlons, aquathons etc. Its even for those who may just like to now what the MultiSports group does in case of future interest in these activities.

We will have the coaching staff involved with the group to give some information on what's available this year, plus news on local training facilities which are new to the club this year.

The coaches will also discuss kit required, technical information about races and equipment, and of course, training programmes. So come and join Nicole, Rich, Lu, Adam, Campbell, Robin, Martin and Gavin on the 9th Feb and find out what events you could take part in this year! Free entry - 3pm start
