MK parkrun - 9 August

The MK parkrun on Saturday 9 August is going to be a big one for DLRR with lots going on for everyone, we have:
  • We have Glenn Beginners group doing the Graduation parkrun - if you could buddy a new runner then please get in touch with Glenn
  • Also AFTER parkrun has finished at around 10.00 we will be doing a DLRR Green Mile for DLRR members, this will be a timed mile on the last mile of the parkrun course - no need to register, just come along on the day (more further down mail)

Cross Country League

After dipping our toes in the muddy waters of the Cross Country County Championships in the last couple of years, DLRR has taken the plunge to join the Chiltern Cross Country League with the first race on 11th October 2014. There will be 5 league races in total on Saturday afternoons, one per month finishing in February 2015.

We have put together a training plan to help everyone prepare for the upcoming season. There will be regular training sessions on Saturday mornings starting on 16th August, led by James Down and Spencer Ollington.  We will be meeting at 9am in Campbell Park, Bow Brickhill Woods and other locations and the sessions will be last about 90 mins.

They will be for all abilities and are designed to build the necessary strength and stamina required for the competitive nature of the Cross Country League. They will also give you some valuable insight and some much needed experience on what it will be like on race day within a fun and supportive group environment.

Cross country can be very tough and extremely muddy at times, but very rewarding. You may get soaked to the skin occasionally but you will definitely learn the art of washing your trainers in the bath or hosing them down in the garden.

It is also great fun, great competition and a great team event, whether taking part or supporting. It can provide an excellent winter focus and acts as a solid base builder going on into the new year.
The club is entering in both the male and female leagues and race entry will be FREE to all DLRR members, so don’t forget you need your green top!!!

If you are not sure then why don’t you come along to some of the first training sessions to test the water and take it from there…

It really would be great to get the green tees out in force for our first competitive venture!
So who’s in (the puddle) ?

DLRR First Aid trained!!

A further 10 DLRR members, mainly run leads and helpers, have gone through two rigorous evenings of first aid training with our very own trained medical staff; Tim Miles and Emma Brandon - paid for by the running club.

The course covered, basic life support, the unconscious casualty, race collapse and race minor injuries, plus choking, other minor wounds, major injuries and defibrillator using a training defibrillator, all with a running focus.

On the second week, the basic life support was reassessed and some commonly used adjuncts introduced. Also, 'managing the emergency' was covered as many of us are run leaders or marshals at events. At the end of the course they receive a certificate for 'Emergency Aid', which is the recognised standard.

Hopefully good for members to know that support whilst on the DLRR runs is there - but let's hope it not called upon!!

The charity, 'Eclipse', whose premises we used for the training are keen to host more first aid training for whoever needs it (companies, etc...) and this supports the ongoing work of Eclipse. So if you know anyone who may be interested, then please get in touch with Tim Miles or via me.

Bike Handling Skills session at the Bowl - 6th September.

Robin Dowswell will be running a Novice/Intermediate Bike Handling Skills session at the MK Bowl on 6th September (11:00-12:30).

For more details and to book please go to the Ms website.

Trailwalker 100K

Well done to Spencer and Sam on completing the 100k Trailwalker finishing at 2.39am  - on completing Spencer said:

Trailwalker 100K done in 19hrs 39 mins! = 3000 metres of ascent across the south downs from Petersfield to Brighton on brutal terrain in scorching heat all day!
Thanks to all my team who got there through thick and thin. Boy was it tough!
And massive thanks to our support team who worked tirelessly through the day and into the night to keep us moving! We simply couldn't of done it without you!
Exhausted today, battered and bruised, very humbled but very happy! ...
We all raised over 2.2K for charity in the process! Thank you to everyone for all their well wishes and support and all our sponsors. We couldn't of done it without you either!
Disappointed I never got to jump in the sea though

DLRR Family parkrun

The DLRR family parkrun Saturday, 9 August - bring the family to parkrun and run with them. Details for children are on the parkrun web-site ( ), but are repeated below:
Can children take part?

We love to see happy children taking part and finishing. We ask that children under 11 are accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian.

If you would like your child to receive a time then you will need to register them separately. However, please note that they must be able to complete the course themselves in order to register and have their barcode scanned (ie if they have been pushed around in a buggy, pushchair etc then they cannot have a barcode scanned).

Please visit here to register.

If you're registering for someone else, do remember to check out our policy on registering others.

We should make clear that the governing body (UK Athletics) say children aged under 13 should not take part in any road race of distance greater than 4km. However, provided younger children are not put under any undue pressure to perform by teachers, coaches, parents or guardians they may take part for fun.

RockSolidRace - Update

The RockSolidRace now has a kids event and teens event - so why not get your kids involved.

Will you be on that starting line on Sunday March 22nd 2015?? The race is nearly nine months away so loads if time to get fit and train.

Entries are already open for next years race and you'll be pleased to know the route has changed with the loop of Green Park now at the start not after 12 miles !
