Bacchus - half marathon

This weekend sees a big group of Redway Runners heading down to the Bacchus Half Marathon which is all about wine and is based in Denbies Vineyard, the largest vineyard in the UK. This is very much a fun race, with fancy dress very much encouraged with wine  and plenty of food at the water stops and a post race hog roast.

We have between 80 and 90 Redway Runners taking part, the club has a fancy dress theme of 'Emergency Services' - you will find this event is not about time, but savouring the flavours and the fun - very few people do not dress up

For those driving the start is at: Denbies Vineyard, London Road, Dorking, RH5 6AA - please be aware we believe Junction 11 on the M1 could be closed over the weekend

Departure details for Bacchus Bus, 11 Sunday, LEAVING From David Lloyd at 7:30am
Leaving From Bacchus 4:00pm, dropping at David Lloyd. (No more money to pay on top of the £15 paid.) The bus will leave at these times promptly.

Cross Country is coming

THe Cross Country season is nearly upon us , exciting update for the club ... As you know after last seasons success , Redway Runners moved up to Division 1 in the league.

Changes to the female scorers has been voted in favour of an increase! Where in the past we had 4 to score , division 1 now have 6 to score! So ladies , we need you more than ever the first 6 female finishers for Redway Runners will score, all athletes after the first 6 will alter opposing team scores !

We need 10 men to score so we need as many men as well as possible

We will still score with incomplete teams racing, but what a loss overall to our club and wasted opportunity to retain our spot in Div 1 if we can not get the minimum numbers

Redway Runners Festival of Running 2017

Pleased to let you know that we have agreed that we will again be holding with Enigma running the Redway Runners Festival of Running in 2017 with a full marathon, two half marathons and a 10K it will be on Saturday 3 June and Sunday 4 June 2017.

All the details and entries will open at the end of October, again places will be limited to Redway Runner members for most events.

Tuesday morning club runs - going on Tour

The Tuesday morning club run is going 'On Tour' so a chance to explore a different area - for the rest of this year on the last Tuesday of the month the run will go at 9.45 from a different location to David Lloyd reception - you can find all the details at:

The MGB Challenge - Naked parkrun - THE RESULT

At Saturday's parkrun we set you the challenge to run naked - we are now able to reveal all with the results in all their glory, look away now if easily offended

We had a good number happy to reveal all but the three who put most on display with:
  • In third place and a bit over dressed was Jenny Moorhourse at 11 seconds
  • In second place and with an inch of modesty Helen Vaughan with 9 seconds
  • In all out first place nothing left to the imagination it was Steve Burlace with just a 3 second difference
Well done all, MGB would be proud of you all, even if she managed mid table mediocrity

Thanks to all 14 that took part in the challenge

PS if you have not got a clue what this is all about, the challenge was to predict your parkrun time and then run  naked, ie - without a watch or it covered up

Workplace Beginners Group

The first of our 5 (yes five) new beginners groups starting this week, is underway with the Workplace group, including Santander, ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales) and Deloitte led by Lucinda,

UK Fire Services Cross Country, 9 October 2016

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s 39th annual Cross Country Race, incorporating the 41st UK Fire Services Cross Country Championships, takes place on Sunday 9 October 2016.

The event will be held over 8.56km/5.32 mile and 6.36km/3.96 mile courses in the historic National Trust-owned Stowe Park, near Buckingham.

Entries are invited from individuals and guest clubs as well as fire and rescue services. Entries will be accepted at Stowe on the day.

Organiser Eddie Gutteridge, Life Vice-President of the Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service Sports Association, said: "It is a privilege to organise an event at Stowe, and once again we express our sincere thanks to the National Trust, Stowe School and the tenant farmers.

“We look forward to welcoming seasoned veterans and first-timers to what is without doubt one of the most picturesque venues available for an event of this type.”

Further details:
Venue: Stowe School, Buckingham, MK18 5EH. Stowe is a world-famous neo-classical masterpiece - one of the great English estates, with extraordinary golden stone buildings with domes, colonnades, temples, follies and features created by the great names of 18th century architecture, spread around hundreds of acres of awe-inspiring parkland and formal gardens dating back to the 1700s.

Course: Undulating parkland suitable for spikes, considered to be a very testing course. Multi-lap course of 5.32 miles (8.56km). Women 3.96 miles (6.36km).

Race start time: 14.00hrs men and women.

Start: Adjacent to Thanet Walk, near Queens Temple, Hawkwell Field, Stowe Park (National Trust).

Car parking: On grassland off the main drive, 100m beyond security gate. Park on the field on the left side at the “Fire” notice.

Reception, changing and showers: In Sports Pavilion, 100 metres from car park, through gate on opposite side of main drive. Note: Rugby pitches out of bounds. Race numbers issued on day. Please arrive by 13.00hrs.

Presentations and refreshments: School dining room from 15.30hrs, a hot meal will be provided.

First aid: This will be provided by a qualified fire officer.

Risk assessment: Carried out.

Race permit: Permit applied for.

Race awards: First three individuals men and women, age category and team awards according to entry. (Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service awards, same criteria with three score on watch or station entry). Team scoring – 4 men, 3 women on finishing position with separate scoring for men and women.

Entry: £12 per person for fire and rescue service and UKA-affiliated club runners. £14 per guest runner not affiliated (£2 sent to UKA). £3 for any supporters requiring a hot meal. Firefighter name changes permitted on the day. Closing date for entries is Monday 23 September 2016.

Future events: Two Inter-Service Representative Matches. Selection for these events will be on the basis of the day’s results and past performance:
  • Wednesday 16 November 2016 – Prison Service v Fire v Police, to be held at Stowe School, Buckingham, MK18 5EH.
  • Thursday 12 January 2017 (TBC) – RAF v Police v Fire v Civil Service v Universities, to be held at RAF Halton, Wendover, Buckinghamshire.

Sincere thanks are expressed to the National Trust and Stowe School for the use of facilities and to Chris Whitehead, and Charlie and Jenny Fife, tenant farmers, for their support and livestock management flexibility. Mercedes Beginners group Graduate

Congratulations to the amazing beginners who graduated from the Mercedes beginners course led by Helen on Saturday morning at parkrun.

You've done so well and should be super proud of all you have achieved.

Thank to all the buddies and everyone who helped out during the course.

Charity Football Match

Fantastic afternoon on Sunday at the Hanslope Recreation ground for the club charity football match with Redway Runners taking on Santander, then afterwards post match drinks and food at the Cock Inn - great fun and a fantastic £361 raised for the club charity of the year - well done to Mike King for organising the event and to everyone else that played and helped today
PS Redway runners won 6 -0

Player, manager and organiser Mike said 'Massive thank you to all the club members who either played or supported today. Loved every minute organising etc and I hope I can do the same in forthcoming years. As player manager I was slightly dissapointed with just the 6 0 victory and will demand more next time!! My third game of the weekend means I am now in an oxygen chamber for a week'

Walk MK for MK Snap

MK Snap are organising a charity walking event on the 9 October (yes, walking not running!) to raise awareness and funds for MK Snap (http://mksnap.org/) a local charity.
 
The range from 5 miles to 20 miles and cover over 50 miles of redways, paths, tow paths.
 
It is a great community event, aimed at getting people walking and discovering Milton Keynes - so if you fancy a challenge give it a go.

Gloucester Marathon & 50Km Ultra

I am writing to inform you of the forthcoming Gloucester Marathon & 50Km Run to be held on Sunday 5th February 2017.It would be appreciated if you could inform your Club members of these races.The event website to enter on line is www.beyondthelimitations.org.uk  
 
The course comprises of a figure 8 loop then goes over the canal onto a scenic loop going through the villages of Elmore and Longney.The setting is Town and Rural and the course profile is flat with a few inclines on the main loop.

With the Milton Keynes parkrun at Willen cancelled this Saturday, 10 September - chance for another Redway runners road trip and we are going to the Buckingham parkrun.

Pacing at parkrun

Redway Runners are doing pacing at the MK parkrun at Willen on Saturday 24 September - if you can be a pacer for us please let Paul Woodward know (or reply to this mail and will forward)

NSPCC MK Half Marathon and 10K

The NSPCC Half and 10K is quickly approaching now on Sunday 25 September, we will again be managing a water station on the course we should be behind David Lloyd on the canal again, so we believe the runners will go through this point twice! (if doing the half) and just before the 'ascent' of Campbell Park hill

We really need about 12 helpers, last year helpers got a goodie bag, you would be needed from 9.30am for set up, Jenny is leading this for the club again and if you can help please let Jenny know by mailing her at jenny.dowling1979@hotmail.com

This will also be the club cheering point with the club flags etc.

Remember if you have not entered yet and are a club member then a discount code is in the club weekly mail.

Again this year we will have a club theme and back by popular demand, it will be a reunion of the club band - do get you instruments finally out of tune - grab your saucepans and the old band will be back with a few new members as well performing all over MK - badly.

About 15 minutes before the race start we will do a big green group photo

In the evening we will meet in the Wetherspoons behind Santander for a drink or two to celebrate from 7pm

MK Willen parkrun

Willen parkrun MK event 338 and 502 finishers with 105 from the club. Great to see the our Mercedes beginners graduating at today's parkrun definitely moved up a class today

Normal Running Timetable

We have many club runs a selection of the main runs is listed below, but you can find the full list at:

Monday
Main Club Run - all standards - 'Social run' 4 miles, with loop back for those who run 10 minute miles and quicker, 'Step up group' which does about 2.7 miles at a gentle pace and the 'Club run' which does a 4 mile run with no loop backs, so you need to know the route. Each run has a tail runner.
Meet at the Decathlon store to leave at 19.00 or if you are new at 18.50
Also Step up run at 18:00 leaving from the Decathlon store
 
Mornings -  Meeting  at David Lloyd reception at 9:30 we have a step up/Coached session with Doug with 30 minute or 60 minute options,
 
Tuesday
6 to 8 miles, approximately 9 minute/mile pace, meet reception 9:30 for a 60-75 minute run.
 
Wednesday
Main Club Run - all standards - meet at 9.30 prompt in at David Lloyd reception for a max 1 hour run (we mix up runs with Interval sessions or hills or a handicap run).

Social run aimed mainly at post-beginner or step-up level but suitable for quicker runners as well.  Meet on path opposite David Lloyd car park gates at 18:00

Early morning Club run, meet at 5:00am at Caldecotte car park on Monellan Grove, for 9 mile route around 7-8 minute mile pace, led by Jen
 
Thursday
Mornings -  Meeting  at David Lloyd reception at 9:30 we have a step up session with Debbie of up to 60 minutes,

Evening social run or Step up to 10K runs or session work (hills, intervals or the handicap run) meet near the barriers to leave at 19.00
 
Friday
10 mile club run, at between 8 and 9 minute/mile pace, meet reception 9.30.
 
Saturday
parkrun *, 5k meet at the mini bowl at Willen Lake 9.00 - all standards - free event - should register before attending and bring the barcode, you can register your club as 'Redway Runners' even if you have not joined as it is a free event.
 
Sunday
Longer training runs, meet at 9.00 check the web site under 'Train' and ‘Sunday runs’ for details.
 
NON DAVID LLOYD MEMBERS MUST NOT PARK IN THE DAVID LLOYD CAR PARK
 
Please remember to do your warm up and cool downs before and after the run.
