Trustees approve new facilities

Construction will begin this summer on three new College of Agriculture facilities that the Auburn University Board of Trustees signed off on at its April 7 meeting. The facilities will be located on the north Auburn campus.

Online tool helps control thrips
April 1 marked the launch of a free, online crop management tool designed to help cotton producers in Alabama and the Southeast get the upper hand on thrips, the region’s most consistent pests of seedling cotton.

Guertal president-elect of Crop Soil Science Society of America

Beth Guertal, a professor in Auburn University’s Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences, has been voted president-elect of the Crop Science Society of America, or CSSA, and will advance to the role of president at the organization’s 2018 meetings in Baltimore, Maryland.

Auburn's Hess tapped as Penn State's top poultry science alum

Penn State University’s Department of Animal Science has named Auburn University faculty member Joe Hess its Poultry Science Distinguished Alumnus for 2017. Hess, professor and extension specialist in Auburn’s Department of Poultry Science, was honored during an April 28 reception at his alma mater.

Wright named Auburn agriculture associate dean for instruction

Auburn University horticulture professor Amy Wright has been appointed associate dean for instruction in the College of Agriculture, Dean Paul Patterson announced in April. She had served as interim associate dean for instruction since May 2016.

Two from College of Agriculture awarded 2017 NSF research fellowships

A College of Agriculture master’s student and a recent graduate have been named 2017 recipients of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. The two—Edna Fernandez-Figueroa and April Maxwell—are among a record-setting 14 Auburn University students selected for the prestigious award in a single year.

The College of Agriculture will honor its Spring 2017 graduates during the Graduation Luncheon, set for 1:30 p.m. at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena. The commencement ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. at the Auburn Arena.
