Spring is in the air

Hello! With a mix of warm weather amid the cold snaps, spring is on its way to Roswell. While you look for things to do as you are out and about, consider stopping in the Roswell Museum for a visit to our new exhibitions, including the upcoming Refracted Futures by Roswell Artist-in-Residence Alia Ali opening March 5.

Although hours are still shorter due to COVID, in addition to Tuesdays to Friday 1-5 pm, we are now open on the second Saturday of each month from 10 am to 3 pm, which also is a free day for Roswell residents. The next Saturday open date is March 13. If you aren't already a member, you might consider becoming one. As a member you'll receive free admission everyday, while also supporting RMAC's operations and community programming!

See you soon and be well,

Executive Director

Alia Ali: Refracted Futures

Opens March 5
Join us for a virtual artist lecture on March 12!

In the exhibition Refracted Futures, curated by Aubrey Hobart, artist Alia Ali creates a linguistic intervention that pushes against the singularity of how we reference the future. Through several distinct bodies of work, the exhibition demonstrates the urgent necessity to shift our thinking toward the many complex intersections between migration, borders, colonization, imperialism, capitalism, and feminist theory. These ideas become tools to refract or alter restrictive linear time and open a space from which multiple futures can and must exist, simultaneously.
Alia Ali is a Yemeni-Bosnian-US multimedia artist and is currently a fellow with the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program. Learn more about the artist and her work during a virtual lecture at 5:30 pm on Friday, March 12, or visit the artist's website

Ceramics Open Studio

A few spots are still open!

Have you taken a ceramics class at RMAC before? Whether recently or a while ago, consider diving back in. We are opening a limited-capacity adult open studio ceramics program beginning April 1. As an open studio, the focus is on access to the studio as opposed to direct instruction, although instructor Aria Finch will be available periodically for questions and assistance as needed.

Registration will only be open to previous RMAC ceramics students as they are already familiar with basic techniques and studio operations. Altogether, there will be 9 three-hour blocks available Monday through Friday 9 am-12 pm and Tuesday through Friday 1-4 pm with each session accommodating 5 students. If there is interest, we are also considering opening an evening session on Thursdays from 5-8 pm. Students may register for more than one session.

Register online or in person during museum hours (Tuesday to Friday, 1-5 pm and second Saturdays, 10 am-3 pm). For questions about registration, please call Tiffany Melancon at 575-500-0363 or the main line at 575-624-6744.

Puzzle Room

Extended through April 30!

Do you like crosswords or logic puzzles? Were you a whiz at math? Or do you just like challenges? The Puzzle Room: A RAiR Secret has been extended through April 30. This activity is like an escape room, but has few to no items to touch in line, making it the perfect small group activity during COVID. The current version is based on a fictional tale inspired by the Museum's Collection. Do put on your thinking cap, and schedule your group today!

Cost is $5 per person to help support our operations. The activity is geared for 3 to 5 players, ages 16 and up. Call for further details or to place a reservation at 575-624-6744. Reservations during open hours are preferred, but alternative times may be available upon request.
