Learning Route on Women’s Land Rights in Rwanda and Burundi
The International Land Coalition (ILC) and Procasur Corporation, a global organization specialized in harvesting and scaling-up homegrown innovations, organized a Learning Route on Innovative Tools and Approaches for Securing Women’s Land Rights in Rwanda and Burundi (4-11 February 2014). Participants visited the Rwanda Women Network, the Association for Peace and Human Rights in Rwanda and the Transitional Programme of Post-Conflict Reconstruction in Burundi. Participants learned about successful approaches and innovative tools to secure land rights for women and established a community of practise with the diverse actors involved.

Moving Forward: Breaking the glass ceiling
The biannual meeting of IFAD’s Farmers' Forum took place before the Governing Council (17 February 2014) in Rome and brought together 84 farmers’ leaders, representing millions of smallholders and rural producers from 56 countries. Participants in a special gender event made recommendations on how to support women leaders and ensure that their voices are heard.

UN Commission on the Status of Women
On 14 March 2014, IFAD convened an informal luncheon discussion on “Country-Level Policy Engagement for Rural Women” to honour the presence of many distinguished IFAD partners on national delegations at the Commission. It was attended by Ministers of Women Affairs from Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Sierra Leone. FAO, IFAD and IFPRI also organized a joint side event on “Closing the knowledge gap on gender in agriculture”, where new findings were presented from FAO-IFPRI and World Bank publications.

World Radio Day 2014 in Burundi
Rural women in Burundi spoke out during a Radio Publique Africaine programme on "Gender equality and women’s empowerment in radio", the theme of World Radio Day, which took place on 13 February. Many women called from their mobile phones to share their experiences from IFAD-supported projects.

Agricultural investment and land: Are women losing out?
A “Multi-stakeholder Conference on Agricultural Investment, Gender and Land in Africa: Towards inclusive, equitable and socially responsible investment
" took place in Cape Town, South Africa from 5-7 March 2014. The aim of the conference, which was co-sponsored and supported by IFAD, was to promote an open exchange of experiences and evidence-based knowledge on the implications of agricultural investments for rural livelihoods, gender relations, and social differentiation among a wide range of stakeholders.

Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Learning Alliance Workshop, Nepal
The IFAD Country Office in Nepal organized a gender workshop on 8 April 2014 to share the learnings of the IFAD/WOCAN (Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture & Natural Resource Management) grant project "Capacity Building for Women's Leadership in Farmer Producer Organizations in the Asia and the Pacific Region" and to discuss gaps and opportunities for integrating GESI in programmes.
