Sunday, September 8: River cleanup in Royalton & Sharon
Join the WRP and Vermont Law School on September 8 at 2pm for a river cleanup at White River Water Trail sites in Royalton and Sharon. Meet at the parking lot immediately downstream of the South Royalton bridge (121 Chelsea St). Dress to walk along the river; gloves, trash bags, and light snacks provided.
September 10-20: Freshwater Snorkeling with school groups
320 local students will don wetsuits to learn about river ecology as part of the WRP and Green Mountain National Forest's third annual Freshwater Snorkeling program later this month. Using snorkels and masks, student will explore a river restoration site on the West Branch in Rochester and learn about biodiversity in a healthy, aquatic ecosystem.
September: Water quality monitoring program wraps-up
The WRP's summer 2019 water quality monitoring season wrapped-up this week. In sum 3 WRP staff and 25 trained volunteers gathered 208 samples at 22 swimming holes around the watershed. A summary of the 2019 data will be available online this fall. THANK YOU to the volunteers who collect and transport water samples, the businesses that provide cold storage, and the technical partners who help analyze our data!
