Dr. Drake at our conference!

We are excited to have Dr. Charles Drake at our conference this year! He is an associate professor of oncology, urology, and immunology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Drake will be speaking on immunotherapy, which he describes as enlisting the body's own immune system to put the cancer into remission by shrinking tumor cells, or stabilize the disease, or slowing its growth.

One reason why cancer defeats us, Dr. Drake points out in an interview with inspire.com, "is that tumor cells evolve over time, and they retain the capability of adapting to pressures of the environment, particularly to agents such as chemotherapy. They develop new mutations, and, thus, ways to escape from most of our established treatments." What makes immunotherapy unique, he explains, is that "the immune system 'understands' that; the immune system was designed to respond to pathogens, which behave similarly. So, as the pathogens change their structure, or their molecular structure, the immune system can follow and hopefully get 'ahead of the game.'"

An expert in immunotherapy and cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder, and testes, Dr. Drake has published extensively and received numerous awards and honors for his research and scholarship, along with several patents. He is a member of the American Association of Immunology, the American Association of Cancer Research, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Don’t miss Dr. Drake on Saturday, September 12, as well as many other esteemed prostate cancer experts covering a wide variety of topics including: Chemotherapy, Xofigo, Bone Health, Seed Implant Radiation, Active Surveillance and managing the sexual side effects of treatment.
