Long Live the King!
Winter Release Vol. I
Chardonnay

Dear <<First Name>>

Chardonnay went through a Fat Elvis period.

Got soft around the middle, used too much makeup and perfume, and kept singing the same old song. In doing so, it turned off a lot of people (and gave rise to the A.B.C. camp).

But you've been following along, so you already know that Chardonnay has long been on a comeback tour! From the jump, LIOCO aspired to be the post-War,
Rockabilly Elvis. The one who swiveled and swerved and set the American music industry on fire. Said another way, we have been making traditional, French-inspired Chardonnay absent of the excesses mentioned above. The two versions in this release are trim, chiseled, and mouthwatering.

This is offer #1 in a three part series. Offers #2 (featuring Pinot Noir) and #3 (featuring Carignan) will go out on Feb. 7th and Feb. 14th, respectively. All of the wines are currently for sale - click here to purchase.

2020 Estero, Russian River Valley Chardonnay

Every vintner will at some point in their career make a wine that surprises people, surprises even themselves. This is the kind of wine they're eager to show critics, loyal clients, and other winemakers. This 2020 Estero may be LIOCO's version. Despite the formidable challenges of the 2020 harvest, our team put in the extra miles and rendered an Extra-delicious version of Estero. Whole cluster pressed, triple settled for absolute clarity, and fermented in old French oak barrels, this wine spent an additional four months in stainless steel imbuing it with surprising cut and precision. Golden fruit, Buddha's hand, mineral, and white flowers lead the charge in this nervy white, making us pine for fish crudos, winter crab, or fried quail. The downside: we bottled way too little of it and our friends at State Bird Provisions S.F. who pour it by-the-glass, are being greedy. *3-Bottle Maximum Purchase*

2021 Sonoma County “SoCo” Chardonnay

It's been awhile since we last featured this wine, a stalwart on our website store. The 2021 vintage (our 16th installment) showcases a special year and we felt it was time. The ongoing drought produced another tiny crop with miniaturized berries and super concentrated flavors. It was a vintage growers disliked for its shy yields, but winemakers celebrated for its punched up flavors. The '21 SoCo is composed of three RRV ranches (one of them bordering Littorai) owned by our longtime grower partner John Balletto, plus a new source in the Alexander Valley called Garden Creek. The cooler RRV sites give us the signature mineral cut and zing, and the old vine Wente we pulled from the AV site introduces a pleasing, just-ripe stone fruit quality to the wine. All of this fruit was hand-picked and then foot-tread or crushed before being pressed. As usual, the wine was fermented in 100% stainless steel. Food pairings are literally endless. How about a proper Croque Monsieur, or a (cold) lobster roll, or some Baja-style fish tacos?
