Mindframe launches its first ever app for media professionals

On Friday 17 October 2014, the Mindframe National Media Initiativemanaged by the Hunter Institute of Mental Health, launched its very first app for media professionals.

The new app supports busy journalists covering mental illness and suicide stories while on the run, and is available to use on iOS and android devices.

On Tuesday 29 July 2014, LIFE Communications released a video showcasing the Mindframe National Media Initiative as part of a series celebrating the important work of projects under the National Suicide Prevention Program (NSPP).

WHO report highlights success of media guidelines in Australia

Dr Margaret Chan, World Health Organisation Director-General released the first global WHO report on suicide prevention on Thursday 4 September 2014, in Geneva.

The report discusses the importance of responsible media reporting of suicide which has been shown to decrease suicide rates.

As part of the annual DiG Festival in Newcastle (16-17 October 2014), Mindframe facilitated a media and communications panel event 'Embracing a digital paradigm when communicating about mental health'.

Mindframe continues to remind media professionals of the importance of reporting responsibly and that sustained and repeated coverage of the issue of suicide can increase the risk to those who are vulnerable or distressed.

AICA Conference 2014
For the firth year running, the Mindframe National Media Initiative proudly sponsored the Australian Indigenous Communications Association (AICA) annual conference in Cairns during October.

Mindframe showcased at JERAA Conference 2014
Mindframe led a number of events at this year's Journalism Education and Research Association of Australia (JERAA) Conference. 

Hosted by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), the annual conference ran from Monday 24 to Thursday 27 November and featured high profile, thought-leading international and national keynote speakers and researchers.

2014 Ossie Award winners announced!
The Mindframe Ossie Award category is for student media stories that safely, responsibly and accurately cover either a mental health or suicide issue.

The awards were announced on Tuesday 25 November during a ceremony as part of the annual JERAA 2014 Conference.
