The Hunter Institute of Mental Health and Mindframe invite Australian media professionals to participate in a research project that is looking at the views and attitudes regarding the reporting of suicide held by the Australian media.

Hunter Institute of Mental Health Director, Jaelea Skehan presented the work of the Mindframe National Media Initiative during her attendance at the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) Congress in Montreal, 16-20 June 2015, and in the USA during early July.

Australian of the Year supports Mindframe

Australian of the Year and Our Watch Ambassador, Rosie Batty highlighted the need for responsible and sensitive reporting of family violence, commending the work of the Mindframe National Media Initiative and its guidelines when covering issues related to suicide.

During June and July, the Mindframe National Media Initiative played a leading role in supporting the media management of the Victoria Coroner’s findings into a cluster of youth suicides in the City of Casey.

ABC's 'Mental As' takes out inaugural media award

The ABC was recognised and presented with a special media award this week, co-sponsored by the Mindframe National Media Initiative.


The Mindframe team at Hunter Institute of Mental Health congratulates the ABC on winning the inaugural TheMHS Medal for their 2014 Mental As… campaign.
