Read on for some Winter Wellness Tips.

As the cold damp of winter (Kapha season) settles upon us, it is important to make lifestyle changes to adapt to our external environment. We may be feeling cold and stiff in our joints, and notice a sluggishness to digestion and elimination. Winter is a time when Kapha tends to accumulate so we may experience excess mucous, weight gain and a feeling of heaviness and lethargy in the body. Vata dosha can also be aggravated with the onset of cold southerly winds we experience in our winter. This can be felt as a deep cold & chill within the body, dry skin, hair and nasal membranes and feeling a bit ungrounded and scattered.
The winter season with its tendency towards dull, cloudy grey days can also have an effect on our mind and we can tend towards despondency and lack motivation. This can lead to inertia and a feeling of stagnation. If the energy in the body is not moving freely it can cause blockages in the body's fine channels (srotas) compromising our immunity. This then predisposes us to colds and flus and other ailments. Therefore it is important to keep the body moving, and the energy flowing, with practises like Yoga which can also uplift the mind.
