Sage Community Network Update

Parent Fall Social

November 15, 2013 6 pm to 10 pm

at The Mardi Gras

(in downtown Boise right next door to Middle School)

The Sage Community Network invites you to join Sage parents, teachers, and staff for a fun night out where we will eat, drink, mingle, and kick off the holiday season by celebrating our amazing school and community.  In addition to a fun party, we will have an ‘Outdoor Adventures’ slideshow highlighting our growing Outdoor Education Program.


Childcare provided for K-5th grade children next door at the Middle School.  $5 per child from 6 pm - 9 pm.  Think fun and games followed by popcorn and an age-appropriate movie.  


We will have a ‘Craft Beer’ and ‘Gift Card’ raffle.  We ask that parents contribute a favorite craft beer and/or a gift card from a local retailer to the raffle.  We will then sell tickets and the lucky winners will take home the prizes - raffle at 8:00 pm.  

Tickets are $10 per person - finger foods provided and cash bar (beer and wine).  All proceeds support Sage International activities (your students).

DP Open House

Please attend the IB DP Open House for information on how your student's 11th-12th grade years will look at Sage.  

Ms. Lockwood will discuss a typical student's schedule, academic curriculum, interdisciplinary core and the IB philosophy (and IB expectations for students).  She'll also share information about university recognition for the IB program.

Morning Coffee Hour

Our monthly Coffee hour is on Tuesday November 5th from 8:00 to 9:00 am in front of the Elementary School.  We will be celebrating Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, with Marsala Tea and Indian snacks. Please come, enjoy, and celebrate our international community.  Next coffee hour will be Wednesday December 4th..

Box Tops For Education Reminder

It would be extremely helpful if you brought your Box Tops in clipped on the pink dotted line. 
It would save hours of time if each family took a few minutes and trimmed them!!

Middle/High School Community Building Update

Work on MS/HS community building with the administration is going well.  The sophomores were surveyed on items they would like to see at the high school level.  Miss Hegg will be contacting vendors for high school memorabilia (like class rings, TShirts, etc).  The students thought it was very important to have clubs available at the high school level and the administration is supportive.  Honor  societies are already in the works and Sage now has charters to start a National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society.  Madame Zahn is the advisor.  You’ll see more soon on eligibility for those.
Here is where you can help.  The administration would like to roll out three high school clubs for starters that were most popular on the student surveys:  a Performing Arts Club, an International Club, and Science Club.  We are looking for at least one parent in each area (that can help provide ideas of events in the community and/or topics of interest to high school students.  High school clubs would meet for about a half hour once a month during lunch and would like to attend a community event (being mindful of cost) once each trimester.  For example, a Performing Arts Club could attend a play one trimester, a concert another trimester, an art gallery the third trimester.  We have support for the “paperwork”--getting the clubs approved, setting monthly agendas.  We really need ideas, especially from a parent with connections to the community or great internet search skills to support these clubs so the high school teachers can focus on the upcoming DP visit.  Once these clubs are rolling and the students are participating, we will consider adding other clubs.  You can contact Lynn Norton at or Justin Boggs at if you can help or would like more information.
The administration is not changing the “weekly” model of clubs like chess, dodgeball, etc.  Students are still encouraged to participate and provide leadership in those clubs as well.  This is in addition to those.
Another high interest area for the students was a junior prom (to eventually become a junior/senior prom) or prom-like event (dance and/or dinner).  We are seeking those interested in serving on a committee that will work with the administration on the development of this event.  Again, contact Lynn or Justin if interested in helping.
