Autumn at the Airfield

September was a very busy month for Kenley Revival Project. Thank you to everybody who visited our stall at the Kenley Airfield Friends' Group Heritage Day. We had lots of visitors to our stall and beautiful weather. Our screening of 'Spitfire' at the David Lean Cinema was also well attended and the audience had plenty of questions for Keith Havilland (Executive Producer) and David Fairhead (co-Director).

Happy 100th Birthday, Stan Ford!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Stan Ford a very happy 100th birthday for October 25th! Stan is the last surviving member of 615 squadron's ground crew, who served at Kenley as an engine fitter during the Battle of Britain. He has been a contributor and supporter of Kenley Revival from the outset of the Project. You can see the oral history he recorded for us here.

Article of the Month:

A Tragedy in Maidstone

Our latest article has been contributed by Dave Brocklehurst MBE, Chairman and volunteer at the Kent Battle of Britain Museum. It tells the story of Sgt. Harold Henry Allgood, of Kenley's 253 squadron, and the terrible consequences of his crash at Albion Place, Maidstone, on 10th October, 1940.

Artefact of the Month

This photo is the most recent item to be added to the online archive. It was contributed by Chris Burton and shows a data plate from the Messerschmitt Me110 that crashed at Cannons Hill Golf Course on 6th September, 1940.

There are a number of objects we have acquired here at Kenley Revival HQ (Merlewood Estate Office) over the years. Reckon you know what they might be and what they might have been used for? Get in touch with us via our website, Twitter and Facebook to let us know.

Do you have anything relating to RAF Kenley you can share?

We have an amazing online archive where you can upload memories, photographs, documents or links to other online sources which relate to RAF Kenley's history. We rely on the community to help us build what could be the most extensive resource of all things relating to RAF Kenley's Battle of Britain past.

Kenley's 'Few' Walking Tour

It was great to welcome Joel Diggle to Kenley for out last walking tour of 2019. Joel served for 22 years in the RAF and Army Air Corps, and has done extensive research on 605 squadron, who served in Kenley's sector during the Battle of Britain. Joel is currently working on a book, which he hopes will bring to light some of the lesser known stories of the Battle.

Kenley Revival will re-commence free guided walking tours of the airfield in April 2020. Details will appear on our events page in due course.
