Pedals for a Purpose
Looking for Used Adult Bikes

RUF-I at Penn State University is looking for used bicycles for new international students who will be arriving on campus for the fall semester. With COVID-19, the availability of bicycles has significantly decreased. Due to increased bicycle purchases during quarantine along with Zagster, Penn State's bike-share provider, suspending operations at all locations nationwide, there is a greater need for adult bikes in general. Our hope is that this drive will provide RUF-I a new way to meet, connect and serve new international students at PSU (welcome tables are not allowed due to COVID). We are asking church congregations in the Presbytery (which includes Oakwood) to help by donating their used bikes to RUF-International. Bikes need to be in "good" working order. No children's bikes, please. If you have a bike to donate, please contact Richard Smith at so he knows the number of bikes RUF-I will be able to distribute. Once you have contacted Richard, you can drop off bicycles at Oakwood on August 4-6 between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

Adam Dennis Amaismeier
Born July 20

Congratulations to the Amaismeier family on the birth of Adam Dennis. He weighed 7lb 13oz and measured 20 inches long. He started sucking his thumb right after he arrived. Both Adam and Alison are doing well. Oakwood rejoices with the arrival of this precious covenant child!

Worship Service Changes

Service time changes this Sunday, July 26.
8:30 am Service with Extra Precautions
11:15 am Service with Livestream Available

Beginning THIS Sunday on July 26, we will offer a service at 8:30 am for those with health concerns. This 8:30 am service will include the extra precautions beyond mask-wearing, such as the elimination of singing, to accommodate those in our church who haven't yet felt able to return to worship due to health concerns or other vulnerabilities. We will do our best to comply with the pertinent Center for Disease Control recommendations in order to keep the risks at a minimum during that early service. Our second service will be held at 11:15 am and we will continue to provide a livestream for that worship service.  Anyone attending an in-person worship service (8:30 am or 11:15 am) is asked to wear a mask during the entire time he or she is in our church building (except when partaking of communion). If you need a mask, one will be provided at the door.

Revised Guidelines for
In-person Worship

Join the
"Clean Team!"

Take 15 Minutes to help clean between services!

Perhaps you’ve wondered how to serve others in a practical way during COVID-19. Here’s an easy way to help! Oakwood is putting together a Clean Team to help clean and disinfect between worship services beginning July 26. The cleaning routine is easy and is based on the CDC guidelines. It takes 15 minutes or less to help clean, but your service will have a bigger purpose in helping reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. If you would be willing to serve in this way, please contact Linda Bonness at 814 238-5442 or

Sunday Evening
Time of Prayer

July 26
6:00 pm

We will be meeting again this coming Sunday, July 26, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm for a time of prayer and reflection as we consider the state of our country, the reality of injustice, and the need for reconciliation. Our hope during this prayer time is that the Lord will bring us to a point of greater awareness of our sin, a deeper empathy for those who are hurting, and an ability to engage with each other and our community with the Good News of Jesus. We will be using The Lord’s Prayer to guide our time together. We hope you will join us.

Opportunity to Share
Hospitality Need

Women of Oakwood, we have a hospitality need! The Guo family (Jesse, Betty, and teenage daughter Donna) recently moved to State College all the way from China specifically for religious freedom. They are new believers who are hungry for God’s word and are excited to attend Oakwood once they are settled and able. Betty is an award-winning baker from Shanghai, and in order to move to America had to sell her bakery and all of her equipment. We hope to be able to bless her by looking into our kitchens and restocking Betty with some nice-quality baking and/or cookware. Betty also collected beautiful dessert dishes, serving trays, cake stands, etc, so any items falling under those categories would also be greatly appreciated! If you are willing, please clean out those cabinets and be on the lookout for items to bless Betty. There will be a large labeled box near the church kitchen set up THIS Sunday, July 26 available for drop off. Please contact Maggie Lee or Laura Booz if you have any specific questions.

We are thankful for your service!
