Archemandrite Andres Giron, the leader of the Guatemalan Orthodox Church we are serving, has fallen asleep in the Lord. His homegoing was on the morning of Sunday, February 16, 2014, two days after his 67th birthday.
We grieve our loss personally and our loss as the Body of Christ. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of thousands of transformed lives through his love of God and obedience to His call.
We appreciate all your prayers on his behalf and are comforted by the assurance that he is now beholding His Lord and held close in His arms. To quote Pres. Sandy Chakos, fellow missionary to Guatemala, "Just as he stormed the earthly powers that subjugated his beloved Mayan people, seeking justice for them, he will continue to advocate on their behalf for all of God's blessings. May his memory be eternal."
Although we were unable to attend the funeral, we will be returning to Guatemala in March , God willing, and will be able to commemorate Fortieth Day Memorial Prayers for Padre Andres there with our Guatemalan brothers and sisters in Christ.
Please pray for the Guatemalan Orthodox Church to regain an equilibrium after this loss of leadership. May God grant to those of us who mourn the loss of Padre Andres the strength to continue the good fight and to persevere in following after Christ with our whole hearts.
