NFN Takes A Short Siesta

It's a busy time for Northland food producers, so NFN will take a break from July's monthly meeting. We look forward to seeing all of you at our next monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 11th at 4pm!

You can find the notes from June's meeting about recent changes to Minnesota's Cottage Food laws here.

Please note that as usual, NFN's Shovel-Ready Projects group will meet on July 21st at 4pm.

Learn How to Accept SNAP EBT Payments

Farmers and farmers' markets: join the Minnesota Farmers' Market Association (MFMA) on Thursday, July 15, 6:30-8:30pm CT to learn how you can enroll to accept SNAP EBT payments from SNAP participants. As of 2020, MN DHS is supplying a free card reader machine and free transaction services to all DMFs (direct marketing farmers) and FMs (farmers' markets). This event will:

  • Walk through the application process for both FMs and DMFs
  • Share strategies on how to optimize this service for CSAs, custom exempt meats, etc.
  • Discuss all the "Bucks" programs available (matching dollar incentives) for farmers' markets, and how they have potential to expand to DMFs
  • Provide time for Q&A
  • Provide consultation with participants following the training as needed

Registration is free but required: Link to register

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Want to learn about food and farming?

NFN runs on the energy of its members, so please tell us what you'd like to discuss at our monthly meetings in this survey. This year we've already had a range of interesting topics, from beekeeping to Covid-19 relief for producers. If there's something you want to discuss or learn about, we'll do our best to make it happen!

AICHO's Indigenous Food and Art Market

There will be a diverse group of vendors selling everything from fresh produce to wild rice cupcakes to Indigenous artwork. This event will accept SNAP benefits for approved food products. For more information, please contact jazminw@aicho.org.

This market will run bi-monthly on July 10th & 24th, August 14th & 28th, and September 11th & 25th.
