Funding success!


We are delighted to announce we have been successful with our bid to the Big Lottery Community Fund. Starting in January we will develop a programme of dance activities in four residential homes in Teignbridge and South Hams. Giving older people in residential care access to a quality arts experience as audiences and participants.

We are now seeking dance artist / practitioners to deliver this work in homes in Bovey Tracey, Dawlish, Ivybridge and Newton Abbot, from January 2014. To read more click here

 

Dance in Time

Dance in Time, a Celebration of Older People's Dance in the South West, took place on 1 October 2013 at Dartington Space.  Performance groups from across the South West came together to share their latest dance works in Studio 1. These groups included:  Inner Ground from Cornwall, with dance artist Jayne Devlin; Dancing Through Life from Wiltshire with dance artist Jane Ford;
Tone Dance form Somerset with dance artist Sue Way; A Dance A Day from Dorset with dance artist Anna Golding; and Dawlish Dancers with dance dance artist Anna Leatherdale.

Creative Conversation 2014

Last week, on Friday 1 November, we held our second Creative Conversation for the region in Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe. We discussed ideas for future projects in North Devon Theatre venues. A big thanks to all who managed to contribute, notes and even video from the discussion will be circulated to attendees shortly.

Keep in mind - Dance in Devon will hold its bi-annual Creative Conversation event in January 2014 - more details to follow!

CPD Dance Card

The last 2013 deadline for the South West continuous professional development Dance Card is looming. 
 The CPD Dance Card aims to open up opportunities for people engaged in the dance sector in either Cornwall, Plymouth or Devon, at any stage in their career, to attend training and continuing professional development events are particularly appropriate for the next step in their own personal and professional development. Apply before 1st December 2013. Shobana Jeyasingh Dance workshop

Heads up! A new DNA subsidized offer...


A brand new creative workshop for secondary school students and their teachers. Ideal for GCSE and A-Level Dance students and adaptable for Key Stage 3, the workshop gives students practical tasks for choreographic movement from a range of stimuli, using Shobana Jeyasingh’s processes. The workshop offers an insight into Shobana Jeyasingh’s new work Strange Blooms, premiering at Southbank Centre on 3 & 4 December 2013.

Dance UK Advocacy Day in Plymouth - 8th November

Are you passionate about dance, but worried it isn’t taken seriously by politicians and decision makers on a local and national level? Join Dance UK for a 2 1/2 hour intensive session and learn how you can lobby for your work and make the case for dance. The training will provide you with basic skills and knowledge about how to influence change through advocacy and lobbying.

Dance Teaching Mentoring Scheme

This is a funded opportunity for dance teachers who have been identified by their peers as potential leaders. It supports them to develop their leadership skills, expand their dance industry and education sector-wide knowledge, and build their networks of contacts within professional dance companies, local dance organisations and across the education sector.
