What a fantastic night at The Landmark Theatre! Many thanks to our performers and contributors; Crystal Zillwood, Heather Walrond, aka Dance Theatre, Richard Chappell, Michelle Wilkinson, Chhaya Collective and Julia Thorneycroft Dance. The night was particularly lively as we were joined by 20 young people who had been working with Motionhouse in the venue on our arts wave devon project. We are so proud to support so much high quality dance in Devon.
Looking ahead to our next platform at Exeter Northcott Theatre on 20th April 2016 we are interested in hearing from companies or artists who are looking to perform new or developed works. This is an amazing opportunity to work with full tech support leading into the performance. The platform will be live streamed and we are particularly interested in hearing from artists with international connections to make the most of this opportunity. For more info on applying click here.

Arts Wave Torrington | Fire and Water Flash Mob Dance
Great Torrington Xmas Lights Event, Torrington Main Square - Sunday 29th November
Everyone is invited to come along for the turning on of the Christmas Lights and to perform the ‘Fire and Water’ flash mob dance. It is requested all participating school children, family and friends arrive at 3.45pm and come to the Dance in Devon stand outside The Plough Arts Centre, 9-11 Fore Street ( situated at the top of the square along to the right) to meet us and pick up the LED lights. At 4.45pm there will be carol singing around the Xmas tree. The Xmas Light Switch on is at 5.00pm, the flash mob dance will follow after the lights have been switched on, taking place at the top of the square and along Fore Street.
There is an on-line video tutorial so family and friends can join in and help children to practice. To watch the video click here. The dance has been designed to follow spontaneously, so do not worry if you do not learn the dance before the event, the idea is everyone attending will be able to give it a go, setting GreatTorrington alight! Please wear warm, water proof clothing and comfortable footwear. For parking there are two main car parks; South Street Car Park and Barley Grove Car Park just off Castle Street. We look forward to seeing you there!

Studio 6 at Dartington
Last week we invited local dancers and movers to join us to share their thoughts, hopes and ideas for the continued use of studio 6 here at Dartington. We are very pleased that an interesting cross-section of the dance and movement community attended and we will share the outcomes of that discussion with the Dartington Collaborative Network to feed in to the future plans for developing community use of the space. We will keep you informed of developments.
Thanks and welcome
A big thank you to Jules our administrator who is leaving us to continue her work at RIO and we warmly welcome Kate Wannell who takes on the role this week.
When we opened the latest edition of Dance UK News we were delighted to see Katherine Nietrzebka smiling out at us. Dance in Devon nominated Katherine for the 2015/16 Dancers and Teachers Mentoring Scheme. Well done Katherine and we look forward to hearing about your experience.
Wow what a whirlwind when 16 young choreographers spent 2 days here at Dartington - dancing, talking, sharing and eating with Laila Diallo and Marc Brew. A hugely inspiring weekend and many of the young artists will be looking forward to a second weekender in Bournemouth in January.
Our dancers said:
‘I feel nourished, supported, refreshed and priviliged’
‘Thank you for a lively and inspiring weekend’.
Dance in Devon at Torbay Ageing Well Festival!
Dance in Devon were invited to deliver a number of projects as part of the first Torbay Ageing Well Festival in October. Get Moving! was a full day of dance in the streets with Impermanence Dance Theatre. Our pop up dance workshops appeared all over Torbay and engaged over 100 residents of all ages. We put on our glad rags for a Dance Night with a Twist where practitioners Amy Robinson and Alexandra Greenwood lead dance sessions in Bollywood, Latin in line dancing and ballroom.
Finally we headed to the glorious beach at Goodrington Sands to create ‘Human Sandcastles’. Working with a cast of professional and community dancers with ages ranging from 20 to 81, we created a promenade performance in one day that took the audience from the bandstand along the promenade and finally down onto the beach.
