Dance in Devon News in Digest...
Pinpoint: North Devon
Last month, Dance in Devon visited Ilfracombe's Landmark Theatre to hold a Creative Conversation with North Devon Theatres, local artists, students, teachers and dancers. At the event, we discussed supporting new and emerging artists (The Landmark welcomes small, new performance groups to perform as part of showcases) and methods of developing youth dance in Devon.
The Landmark Theatre is now officially a homebase for our regional development agency, Dance in Devon. This means that events like Creative Conversation and other platforms for debate, showcasing and making new work can take place in North Devon regularly.
After the Creative Conversation, we enjoyed a marvellous performance of the new show Broken by Motionhouse. On 4th November, Dance Network Active (or, DNA) hosted a Motionhouse workshop for teachers and dance leaders at Exmouth Community College.
And, since the workshop we have been planning for Motionhouse's Artistic Director - Kevin Finnan, MBE - to return to Devon for Creative Shed, a development weekend for young choreographers from the South West.
This December, North Devon has seen the launch of a new creative dance and history project, Movement and Memories at St. Anne's Arts and Community Centre in Barnstaple. This is an unmissable opportunity for over 55's to be part of a new contemporary dance group inspired by the work of Sadlers Wells' Company of Elders.
