CPD Dance Card Opportunity, Workshop With Richard Alston Dance Company and A Scratch Performance Call Out

Richard Alston Workshop Opportunity  
Richard Alston Dance Company are performing at the Exeter Northcott Theatre on the 8th and 9th of March 2016. Whilst the company are in the area, Dance in Devon have arranged for dancers to take part in an energising and stimulating 3 hour workshop with a Richard Alston Company outreach team member. The workshop will be pitched at confident students and professional dance artists/ leaders. The session will take place on the 8th March from 1.30 – 4.30pm, the venue for the workshop will be in Exeter and will be released in due course.

The cost of participation in the workshop will include a ticket to the evening performance on the 8th March, which will be followed by a post-show discussion with Richard Alston. Price: £25. If you would like to sign up for this workshop please do so through our Eventbrite page. Deadline to sign up is the 15th February at 5pm.  

This workshop will only go ahead if participants sign up, so please sign up early to avoid disappointment.  

Community Dance Platform | Performance Opportunity
Dance in Devon in partnership with Doortsep Arts are hosting a community dance platform to celebrate dance in Torbay this April! We would really like to showcase a range of dance genres and pieces, and invite all sectors of the dance community to share their work. All ages and levels of experience are welcome! Deadline for applications is January 30th, for information on how to apply click here.

CPD Dance Card
Next deadline for CPD Dance Card is 1st March. The CPD Dance Card aims to open up opportunities for individuals working in the dance sector in Cornwall, Plymouth or Devon to attend training and continuing professional development events. Click here for more information. 

Workshop dates @ Exeter Phoenix
Taking Shots
A practical workshop with experienced dance photographer, Kevin Clifford. You will have an opportunity to discuss and try out ideas for creating great shots of your work. Tips on how to best communicate your ideas to a photographer and make the most of a photographic opportunity. Workshop will take place on 1st March from 10.30am – 1.30pm.

Sharing Stories - making the most of PR opportunities 
Find out how to make the most of your PR opportunities. Learn what makes a good news story, how to attract journalists and communicate your messages effectively for a range of audiences. Explore the possibilities for gathering visual content for your story. During a practical exercise, you will get help and advice to write a press release for media or online. Workshop will take place on 15th March from 10.30 – 1.30pm.

To book onto one or both workshop courses please email administrator@danceindevon.org.uk by Friday 19th Feb @12 midday. The cost for one course will be £10 or £15 for both.

These courses will only go ahead if enough people sign-up.

Move & Dance Together 
For All People with Parkinson’s & Carers. Fun Movement to music from a chair, on your feet or both! Led by Rebecca Jeffery, dance practitioner.

Watch This Space | Artist Call Out for 2016
Watch This Space 2016 will take place at Exeter Northcott Theatre on Wednesday 20th April. As a local artist this is your chance to take part in Watch This Space, an exciting showcase that has presented of some of the best ‘home grown’ dance in the region over the last five years. Call out for Performers for Scratch Performances 
Unique opportunity for dance artists / groups to perform at a Scratch event at Exeter Phoenix which will be live streamed online by Arts View Live. Arts View Live specialise in live streaming, making the most of the quality and talent in the UK arts scene with a new way of getting live work to a new digital savvy audience. 

This callout is for dance artists / groups who have work that they would like to share online via live streaming. This project would also suit those who have work in progress which they would like feedback on, artists who are interested in having a critical dialogue or those with international connections or with an interest in developing an online portfolio. Those artists/ groups selected to perform at the scratch events would also be able to access free rehearsal space through Dance in Devon’s Space to Play project.  

The dates of the performances will be mid May and mid July, specific dates will be released in due course, so please keep an eye on the website.  

If you are interested and would like to take part in this project please email an Expression of Interest (EOI) to administrator@danceindevon.org.uk . The EOI should include what you hope to get out of this experience and the ideas you are exploring and would like feedback on. The deadline for expressions of interest will be 22nd April 2016. 

Attik Youth Dance Company at Dartington 
On the 21st January Attik Dance will be starting a new Youth Dance Company at Dartington, in ‘The Space’ studios. This is an amazing opportunity for young dancers to explore choreography and performance with the professional dancers from Attik Dance. Click here for more information.

Skill Sharing Session For Dance Practitioners Working In Youth Dance
A skill sharing session for dance practitioners working in youth dance. The session is being held at Hartley House Dance Club from 12-2pm on the 19th January. The session will be facilitated by Jules Laville.

23rd - 24th January 
From Devon With Love: Strange Matters Dance Company – Run From No One. Barbican Theatre 
From Devon With Love returns to Barbican Theatre this January, once again presenting a range of vibrant and inventive pieces from some of the region’s most exciting theatre, dance and performance makers. A double bill of Dance works, from Strange Matters Dance Company. 

30th - 31st January 
Theo Clinkard Masterclass | Absorbed In Action, AMATA Falmouth 
A two day workshop with Theo Clinkard. Each day will start with a generous two-hour class that is both challenging and playful, followed by a focused session where participants can delve into some of the ideas he is currently concerned with before developing material through exploratory and creative tasks and dancing together as a group.

6th February 
James Wilton Dance Company | Premiere of Holocene, AMATA Falmouth
Based on Job 41: 1-34 from the Tanakh Holocene exploring the immense power, ferocity and unrelentingness of nature. Starting from gently rolling waves the fluidity builds to epic proportions until the stage is flooded with a crashing tsunami of movement.
