 Creative Class With Richard Alston Dance Company, A workshop with Hofesh Schecter, and a 'Big Dance' Event hosted by Dance In Devon

Richard Alston Workshop Opportunity  
Don't miss out on this opportunity to take part in a 3 hour creative class, lead by the Richard Alston Dance Company outreach team. The workshop will be pitched at confident students, professional dance artists/ leaders and teachers. The session will take place on the 8th March from 1.30 – 4.30pm, and will be held at  Exeter College. 

This workshop will only go ahead if enough participants sign up. The deadline to register is this Monday 15th February, to do so please visit our 'Opportunities' page. 

Training Opportunities – Working with a Photographer & PR Skills
Taking Shots
A practical workshop with experienced dance photographer, Kevin Clifford. You will have an opportunity to discuss and try out ideas for creating great shots of your work. Tips on how to best communicate your ideas to a photographer and make the most of a photographic opportunity.

Sharing Stories - making the most of PR opportunities 
Find out how to make the most of your PR opportunities with artist and PR specialist Gillian Taylor. Learn what makes a good news story, how to attract journalists and communicate your messages effectively for a range of audiences. Explore the possibilities for gathering visual content for your story. During a practical exercise, you will get help and advice to write a press release for media or online.
Workshops will take place at Exeter Phoenix, in March. For further information and to sign up please visit the 'Opportunities' page of our website.

Creative Conversations 
Dance in Devon are leading a facilitated chance to catch up with other dance leaders working with young people to discuss opportunities, challenges and ideas for working better together. With wine!

Dance In Devon organises an exciting ‘Big Dance’ Event!
Dance in Devon are co-ordinating an event for the ‘Big Dance’ on 20th May! Come and join us to learn Akram Khan’s 3-minute choreography with Anna Leatherdale on Thursday 14th April, from 4pm-7pm here at Dartington Space. We will learn the choreography then have a chance for a bit of local networking over tea and home-made cake. If you are interested in coming to learn the dance with us on 14th April please go to our 'Opportunities' page on our website.

Watch This Space | Artist Call Out for 2016
Watch This Space 2016 will take place at Exeter Northcott Theatre on Wednesday 20th April. As a local artist this is your chance to take part in an exciting showcase that has presented of some of the best ‘home grown’ dance in the region over the last five years.The deadline for applications to perform is 1st March, for more details on how to apply click here.

State of Emergency residency at Dartington

CPD Dance Card
The next deadline for CPD Dance Card is 1st March. The CPD Dance Card aims to open up opportunities for individuals working in the dance sector in Cornwall, Plymouth or Devon to attend training and continuing professional development events. Click here for more information. 

Call out for Performers for Scratch Stream in Exeter
Unique opportunity for dance artists / groups to perform at a Scratch event at Exeter Phoenix which will be live streamed online by Arts View Live. Arts View Live specialise in live streaming, making the most of the quality and talent in the UK arts scene with a new way of getting live work to a new digital savvy audience. 

This callout is for dance artists / groups who have work that they would like to share online via live streaming. This project would also suit those who have work in progress which they would like feedback on, artists who are interested in having a critical dialogue or those with international connections or with an interest in developing an online portfolio. Those artists/ groups selected to perform at the scratch events would also be able to access free rehearsal space through Dance in Devon’s 'Space to Play' project.

Hofesh Schecter Company Class
Dance in Devon are working with Theatre Royal Plymouth to offer a dynamic and exhilarating workshop with Hofesh Schecter Company. This class will be held in the Exeter College CCI theatre space, on 28th April from 7-9pm. The class will be aimed at professionals, graduates, confident students and is a great CPD opportunity for dance teachers. Attik Youth Dance Company at Dartington 
On the 21st January Attik Dance started a new Youth Dance Company at Dartington, in ‘The Space’ studios. This is an amazing opportunity for young dancers to explore choreography and performance with the professional dancers from Attik Dance. Click here for more information.


Dance Diary

15th February
Monday Night Dance Sessions, The Totnes Dance Collective, Civic Hall Totnes
These sessions are held every Monday evening from January – March. Each session is held by either Soul Motion, Movement Medicine, or 5 Rhythms. There is no dance experience needed for these conscious dance sessions, everyone is welcome.

19th February 
Broken | Motionhouse, Landmark Theatre Ilfracombe 
Broken erupts onto the stage in an adrenaline filled multi-media spectacle. This awe-inspiring show has something for everyone. Athletic contact work, spectacular acrobatics and a gripping narrative combine with a revolutionary set design, an amazing music soundtrack and digital imagery that melds with the performers as they move.

20th February
U.Dance Performance, The Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe
Dance in Devon and The Landmark Theatre are displaying a showcase of brilliant youth dance! This platform will host Devon-based youth companies, and celebrate the varied dance styles enjoyed throughout the region.

23rd February
Richard Chappell Dance | Burnt Norton, IRIS and The Vast Rocks, Barbican Theatre, Plymouth
Richard Chappell Dance presents the company’s second UK Tour of its inaugural evening of work with IRIS and The Vast Rocks, and with new solo work Burnt Norton. The program presents two works which are twinned in structure and focus on how the choreographer’s surroundings have influenced his creative life.

23rd February
Music-Led Live! Soundscapes to Move to. Dartington Space Studios
Music-Led Live is a weaving of recorded music with live piano playing aimed for movement and dance. 

24th February
The Happiness | Karla Shacklock Company, The House, Plymouth (Pictured)
This piece is fast, fun and physical with a  combination of breakneck choreography, spoken word, live sound and ever transforming images, which sweeps it's audience into a provocative and entertaining adventure. 

27th & 28th February
Physical Postcards – Creative Dance Weekend, Rosehip Barn, Launceston 
A weekend in which to create personal dance images for your very own dance postcards. Perfect for creating images for flyers and posters to advertise your work. 

1st March
Imbalance : Joli Vyann, Exeter Phoenix

Fusing acrobatics, dance and circus, with choreography from internationally renowned Olivier Award nominee Jonathan Lunn, Joli Vyann present Imbalance. Integrating exciting acrobatic skills with athletic yet graceful dance in an energetic and thought-provoking performance that explores our obsessive dependence with technology.

4th March
2Faced Dance Company | Dreaming in Code Barbican Theatre, Plymouth
Award-winning choreographer Tamsin Fitzgerald and Eddie Kay for Frantic Assembly present Dreaming in Code, an explosive, visceral, brand-new double bill performed by one of the UK’s most innovative male dance companies. Featuring a breathtaking collision of kinetically charged dance and theatre, with music by Angus MacRae and Tony-nominated composer Alex Baranowski, 2Faced Danceexplore what the future could look like in this powerful and fearless work.

Physical Postcards – Community Dance Classes & Filming
All abilities welcome – sessions offer you a lovely dance session leading to the making and filming of your own Physical Postcards.

Attik Youth | Call Out for Young Creatives
Calling musicians, artists, photographers, designers, writers and creative young people! Attik Youth Dance Company are looking for young creatives to join their weekly rehearsal space to make new performance work. 

Plymouth Dance CPD Mentor and Coaching Session

Mentor and Coaching session suitable for advanced practicing dance practitioners, this session is an opportunity to understand and discuss the difference between mentoring and coaching. The session will be of interest and use to dance practitioners who take responsibility for supervising or supporting other dance practitioners and students.

Move & Dance Together 
For those with Parkinson’s & their carers. Fun Movement to music from a chair, on your feet or both! Led by Rebecca Jeffery, dance practitioner. 

 Arts Work – Creative Facilitation Course
Whether it’s for the purposes of team building, consultation, idea-generation or training sessions, this course will encourage, develop and inspire you as you prepare to lead others through a facilitative process – giving you more creative approaches to add to your arsenal. Ideal if you want to explore more creative approaches to group facilitation.

Walk of Life- Movement Workshops
The Walk of Life is an innovative approach to non-stylised and environmental movement and creative expression, it integrates moving in the studio with moving in response to inspiring environments on the coast and in the hills and woodlands nearby.
