Autumn in Devon

Autumn is often a time of change and new chapters. At Dance in Devon we have lots of new projects to get our teeth into and also a big change to announce.

On the 1st October we launched our new website. We hope you will agree looks very attractive and is much easier to use.  We have also got a new logo and have commissioned some beautiful images of dancers in Devon, which you will find throughout our website.  The 1st October was also a big day for us as we celebrated International Older Peoples Day.  Working with Dartington Arts and Abundant Life, Dance in Devon ran Dance in Time, a dance event designed for 'older' people.  We think dance is important in people's lives, irrespective of age, this event provided an opportunity to celebrate dance and challenge perceptions about older people dancing. Sarah Cobley, Assistant Director at Dance in Devon, reflects on the day in her blog post.

We are pleased to announce that our next Creative Conversation will be with Wayne McGregor, CBE on the 4th December at Dartington SPACE.  In companion with the Creative Conversation we are also able to offer two opportunities to work with Wayne McGregor | Random Dance Company. Join Jasmine Wilson, Director of Creative Learning, for a workshop for dance teachers and professionals on the 4th and take a place in an Open Pilates class with Catarina Carvalho, Rehearsal Assistant, between 3rd-6th December.  Booking is essential, find out more here.

Watch This Space, our dance platform showcasing South West contemporary dance, is back!  The date for your diary is 22nd January 2015 at Exeter Northcott.  If you would like to apply to share your work more details can be found here.

Applications are also open to apply for the UDance 2015 regional which will take place on Sunday 29th March at Exeter Northcott. Dance in Devon are the regional partner working with Youth Dance England.  Those who take part in the UDance regional will have the chance to perform at the National Youth Dance Festival, which will also happen in Devon!  UDance National is in Plymouth between 22-25th July 2015.

Dance in Devon have also launched  a major new arts project in Dawlish as part of arts wave devon.  Dawlish Journeys will run in the Dawlish learning community throughout the Autumn and Winter.

Finally our big news comes from Gillian Dale, Executive Director at Dance in Devon who announces her retirement in this months DANNI.  With a big year of plans ahead, Gillian will be greatly missed, but we know she will still be very actively engaged in dance in Devon- just try and stop her!
