Come and celebrate with us!
Tuesday 14th April
Westminster University, Pavilion Room
115 New Cavendish Street, London W1W 6UW
6.30pm - 8.30pm Refreshments
What's Going To Happen?
The diversity of people and activities in this area is in danger of irrevocable change. We have seen recent planning applications that take no account of residents or local business. Even where locals and applicants have met and agreed good solutions, the planning officers seem reluctant to include them in their decision. This is because they are tied by policy.
The only way to change this is to make binding planning policy of our own for FitzWest. If you want to help keep the small shops and businesses, plus the mix of housing that ordinary people can afford, please join us on 14th April, where the scope of the new Neighbourhood Plan will be discussed.
While waiting for formal recognition from Westminster City Council, we have held a number of meetings with the members of the forum to discuss issues like:
- Pressure for development
- The affordability of housing
- The importance of independent businesses
- The state of streets and squares
- Traffic, parking, deliveries, cycling and walking
- Rubbish collection
- Greening the area
- Night time uses
Now that we have received recognition from WCC:
Are these the right issues?
Should we cover other subjects?
What form will our policies take?
If you want Westminster City Council to make improvements to our streets and green-spaces, get involved in shaping local policy now. The Forum brings with it access to Community Infrastructure Monies, so we can fund real improvements in the area. The Neighbourhood Plan that we make together will be classed as statutory planning policy. That policy will be binding upon Westminster City Council. (Once the entire community has voted on it.)
Our Forum meetings will be the place when all these things are discussed and agreed. Come to the first formal Forum meeting, make your voice heard and celebrate with us.
Free light refreshments, wine and non-alcoholic drinks.
A New Committee
Your shadow committee has worked very hard to bring the Forum into life and into a position that Westminster City Council can agree to recognise it. We have started the ball rolling. Now we need help from a wider group of people to bring the Neighbourhood Plan into being.
At the meeting we will be voting for a new executive committee to manage the
process on behalf of the Forum. We welcome applications from any member of the Forum.
We are particularly looking for committee members who have experience of running:
Engagement with businesses
FitzWest twitter handle or facebook page
Guided walks through the area
email email@example.com or call Wendy Shillam 07957 438 666
Committee Meetings are neither too frequent nor too stuffy. Many will be workshops.
Please forward this email to your friends. Forum membership and the celebration on 14th April is open to anyone who works, lives or runs a business or organisation in FitzWest.
Encourage people to get involved.
The Forum is free to join.
