Dear Friends,
We are delighted to report that Westminster City Council has just announced their acceptance of Fitzrovia West Neighbourhood Area.

The details can be found here:

There are two important points for everyone to note:
1. Westminster has decided to expand our proposed boundary to include most of the west side of Great Portland Street.  Their reason is to ensure that an important street like Great Portland Street is considered as a whole.

2. Because of the number of businesses in the area, we are to be recognised as a residential and business neighbourhood.  That means that at the end of the process there will be two referenda, one among residents and one among business rate payers. Our neighbouring areas, Marylebone, Soho and Mayfair are all similarly designated.

We will be issuing more details soon.  In particular we want to hear from people who are interested in putting their names forward to become members of the forum and the new shadow executive committee.   There is lots of work to do.  The forum itself can not be recognised until we issue a list of members and an agreed constitution.  We anticipate the next stage, including another round of public consultation, will take approximately four months.

In the mean time we will be holding meetings so that everyone can take part in the discussions and hosting a celebration!   I will put more information onto the website as soon as possible.  Please bear with us, there is a lot to change.

We would like to thank everyone who wrote to the council.  There is no doubt that your comments tipped the balance, convincing the officers and elected representatives that Fitzrovia is distinct and should be granted its own neighbourhood.

I would also like to thank my colleagues, Mark Adams, NIck Bailey, Barbara Corr,  Daniel Castle, Ben Everest, Edward Kellow, Ali Matthews, Drew Stevenson and lastly, but by no means least Wesley Skow. Wesley started this whole initiative, wrote our application and convinced us that we should do something.

Thank you,
Wendy Shillam
