Kelly and Sherrye VanOsdol opened Framin' Gallery, a custom framing and home decor store, in August 1983. Two major events coincided with the store's opening: Sherrye's pregnancy with the couple's third child and the failure of Penn Square Bank. It was not the way they had expected to start a new business, but 33 years later, Framin' Gallery is still in business.

The VanOsdols chose to open their store in Edmond because Kelly had lived in the city since 1964. The couple had a connection to the city and would not just be another new business. Kelly knew the community and felt Edmond would be more receptive to a business like theirs, making the potential for growth higher.

The framing industry has changed in the store's more than 30 years in business. The store now has a computerized mat cutter that is capable of free hand designs, pen designs including calligraphy, logos, embossing and much more. The owners and staff make it a priority to stay on the forefront of the latest education in their field, primarily on the subject of preservation and design.

Framin' Gallery focuses on giving back to and being a part of the community. Customers receive discounts for donated winter coats and canned foods for the Hope Center. The store also donates frames to the Fine Arts Institute and is looking into a blood drive for the Oklahoma Blood Institute this spring. Kelly was the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce 2009 Volunteer of the Year and Framin' Gallery was a finalist for Small Business of the Year in 2012. He plans to continue to be an active chamber member, especially on the Small Business Council.

Customers have turned into friends as the VanOsdols have developed many long-term, close relationships through their business. Their goal is to continue to be a leader in customer satisfaction.
