Newsflash: July 2015

Dear colleagues,
Working collaboratively is a cornerstone of the ASC programme, which was set up as a multi-stakeholder concept. This approach runs through all of our work and is recognised, I am proud to say, by our recently achieved full ISEAL membership. Over the last couple of months we have seen this approach captured in the development of new and existing partnerships. I recently signed two new memorandum of understandings. The first was with D-Fish, agreeing to a step-wise approach for farms to move from VietGap to ASC certification. This partnership means ASC can now engage with a tier of farmers that are currently not able to meet the ASC standard. Then, with the Marine Stewardship Council, we confirmed our joint working on a number of areas to ensure efficiencies and added value to our shared partners. And, with the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) and GLOBALG.A.P., who we have worked with for some time now, we developed combined audit checklists, which will reduce the burden and duplication for farms seeking multiple certificates. Working in this way gives us all a greater chance of achieving our shared goals and bringing about lasting social and environmental improvements.
