Hagar Australia
I want to sincerely thank each of you who gave so generously to our recent appeal so that we can provide more children in Cambodia with a safe foster home while they recover from trauma.

Having visited the home of foster parents, Charya and Mealea, and been so moved by their capacity to provide love and guidance to young people recovering from trauma, this appeal felt very personal for me.

It also felt personal because I have now had the opportunity to meet more of you - the wonderful Hagar community in Australia.

Through visits to Sydney and Perth - where Hagar Australia was birthed more than a decade ago - and ongoing engagement with the community here in Melbourne, I have had the wonderful privilege of meeting some of Hagar's greatest champions across the country.

As I reflected to my family at the close of our appeal, there are some incredibly generous human beings who support Hagar's work. Thank you so much.

We have some exciting events coming up over the next couple of months, kicking off with Style for Life on 31 July (does it get any better than helping cut the chains of slavery by getting a new hair do?)

During August and September, I'll be speaking at events in Canberra, Perth and Adelaide. If you live in one of these cities and think your community group, church, school or even a lounge room full of friends would like to hear more about Hagar's work, let us know!

Hagar CLC Principal Piseth Horn (left) with Corrs Partner Richard Leder filmed in Cambodia.

On Monday 11 July, Corrs Chambers Westgarth staff across Australia were interrupted from their work as a video message popped up on their screen. The message, from Partner Richard Leder marked the start of their annual internal fundraiser for Hagar. Now in its third year, the fundraiser has grown from a simple idea to provide uniforms to students, into support for nutrition, school supplies and counselling. Last year the staff raised over $7,000 which was then matched by Corrs.

We hear it can get pretty competitive between the state offices..but healthy competition can be good in the name of chairty!

Thank you Corrs Chambers Westgarth for your unwavering support of our legal, education and counselling programs.

Youth at HumeRidge Church of Christ in Toowoomba banded together in July to host their annual State of Origin fundraiser for Hagar. All of the action of the game was brought 'pew-side' and 100% of the takings donated to Hagar. This year they raised a remarkable $28,000. Whilst Queensland may have won that game, it is clear Hagar was the real winner. Thank you HumeRidge!
“My day to day inspiration is the feeling of humanity and cordial heart and noticing the ability of doing something to rescue a destroyed hope.”
 - Mohammad Mustafa, Transitional Care Centre Driver for Hagar Afghanistan

Mohammad’s brother was employed as Hagar’s first ever driver in Afghanistan. As Hagar programs expanded, the need for more staff increased and he suggested his brother Mohammad apply for a position. Mohammad first worked as a night driver for two years, then became the day driver in 2011.

“My brother told me that Hagar helped the most vulnerable within society and provided excellent services to recovering women and children. At first, working at night was a challenge because it was very unsafe, but I enjoyed my responsibilities because I knew I was making a difference to those who needed help and safety.”
