November 12th -  General Meeting Program

Grow Your Business With Kickstarter

Presented by Kristin Mitsu Shiga

Got a great idea for a new product line, but need seed money? Have a big project you are ready to launch, but lack the funding to do so? Or maybe you already have a proven winner and just want to expand your audience? Kickstarter may be your answer! Join us at the November CMAG meeting to learn about this exciting new option for financing your creative projects.
Over the past four years, Kristin has launched her own successful Kickstarter campaign (which raised over $10,000!) and helped dozens of other artists and groups do the same.  Throughout the evening, we will break down the elements of a successful Kickstarter campaign in detail and examine examples of both what to do, and what NOT to do. Other crowd-funding web sites will also be discussed.

Bring your ideas for your project and any questions you may have about crowd-funding.

President's Message - Come out for the Clark County Open Studios Event

By Cheryl Smith

Today, Saturday November 9th, and tomorrow, Sunday November 10th, marks the first ever Clark County Open Studios tour.

Spend the weekend on a free, self-guided tour to see the work of 50 local artists who will be opening their studios and sharing how, why and where their art is created. This is a unique opportunity to visit artists and artisans, view diverse works and buy pieces specifically created or made available for this event.

Guidebooks with an artist directory will be available at the preview reception, at local businesses, and at each studio during Open Studios. You may also download a pdf of the guide here at ccopenstudios.org.

Artist Opportunity: Buckman Arts Show and Sell

The Buckman Art Show and Sell is accepting applications for artists for the 24th Annual Buckman Art Show and Sell being held March 8 & 9, 2014.  Applications are available at www.buckmanelementary.org/artsale and are due Nov. 22, 2013 to be considered.

This 24-year tradition features the original artwork of approximately 140 to 150 artists and craftspersons, including paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, textile and other wearable art, toys, and much more, in a fun festival setting. A student gallery showcases the work of Buckman students and alumni. Food, live music and hands-on art activities for kids make the Buckman Art Show & Sell a fantastic event for the whole family.

Note the show is being held on a saturday/sunday next year!  We are looking forward to a great show and hope to have many applications from your members to consider.

Call for Entries - Changing Hues: Color Embraced by Metalsmiths Around the World

From www.ganoskin.com

The exhibition is open to all metalsmiths, professional and amateur, advanced and beginner, around the world.

The exhibition is seeking works whose primary theme is color, whether that be using colored materials, exploring creating colored surfaces, or encasing the object in color. Works should be about COLOR - not color as an accent or focal point, but with color embraced as their primary visual focus.

The exhibition is curated by Beth Wicker, President of the North Carolina Society of Goldsmiths, and Adjunct Instructor at Northeastern Technical College in South Carolina, USA. Director of the exhibition is Hanuman Aspler, founder of The Ganoksin Project, the world's largest internet jewelry site.

Entries will be accepted from now until February 15, 2014

Details and entry information is available at

Newsletter Submission Deadlines:

  •
December issue, (NO NEWSLETTER).
January issue, January 6th.
February issue, February 3rd.
  •
  • What to send: By far the most important would be reporting any CMAG event you participated in or attended. Visiting an exhibit or symposium. Taking a CMAG workshop. Our newsletter depends completely on the members to report on these activities. Also important in this vein would be metal art events you participate in outside CMAG; galleries, shows, workshops, books.

How to send: By email. Send to news@cmaguild.org . Put text in the body of the email. Try to send some text. Even if it seems a bit random. It'll work in fine. Send pictures. The internet is all about pictures. Best format is jpeg but send what you have.

When to send: Send it by the deadline.
