• ECISD – Ector Middle School has a new name, focus and attitude. The new name is Ector College Prep Success Academy. It offers raises for teachers and staff, pay for working after school hours, adequate supplies and equipment, targeted professional development, time for collaboration among teachers and time to plan. Teachers will be offered on-site and web-based training and small group coaching. The intervention method is aimed at tackling irregular attendance, poor behavior and lack of coursework effort. Ector will focus on a well-rounded curriculum with rigorous classes, high academic expectations and a wide variety of fine arts, athletic and extracurricular activities.
• Odessa Chamber of Commerce – Ribbon cuttings were held for Benchmark Mortgage at 4555 E. University Suite B-5, Champs Pet Boutique and Bakery at 4060 Faudree Road Suite 104B, Soon’s Power Trim at 1007 E. 7th Street and Caesar’s Palace Nail and Spa at 4060 Faudree Road Ste 105.
• Marriott Hotel – A topping out ceremony was held for the Marriott Hotel. A topping out ceremony is a tradition where builders celebrate the completion of a building’s framing and is the last steel beam at the highest point of the building. The Marriott will have more than 200 room and about 150,000 square feet. The hotel is expected to open next year and is part of the downtown revitalization.
• TTUHSC – The Odessa Chamber held a welcome reception for the third-year medical students entering Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin School of Medicine. More than 100 attendees joined at the Chamber offices to welcome the students into our community.
