Cello and Organ
Aristide du Plessis & Isabelle van Rensburg
Sunday 13 October 15:00

Salon Music is proud to present an unusual recital by two top class South African classical virtuosos on their respective instruments.

The cello and organ combine in a delicious soundscape, both moving and majestic, for the most discerning music lover. Original works for cello and organ, virtuoso organ solos and tasteful arrangements of well-known pieces blend into an enjoyable compilation of note.

Vivaldi is celebrated with two concerti. The vibrant and sparkling Cello Concerto in C major will be performed in its entirety. The organ then goes on to feature in a solo version of Bach’s magnificent arrangement of Vivaldi’s famous Concerto for 2 Violins.

Gems such as the Larghetto from Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet and the Valse Triste (Sibelius) are but two more wonderful melodies adorning this programme. Not to speak of the flashy organ solos like the Vierne Carillon.

A special tribute to Notre Dame is presented in the form of a Prayer by Boellmann for solo organ, after the recent disastrous fire.

Do not miss yet another winning Salon Music production at Brooklyn Theatre.

Healthy ways to lose weight,
reduce waist circumference and keep it off

Prof. Nola Dippenaar
Wednesday 9 October 19:00

Visceral fat (“inner fat”) is a potential killer that lurks deep within the abdominal cavity, padding the spaces between the abdominal organs, such as the liver, pancreas and intestines. As it accumulates, the waistline grows, and it is in effect this bulk that causes the typical appearance of middle age spread.

While it is largely hidden, surrounding internal organs, it is not truly invisible - because you can tell if you have too much of it by checking your waistline. Subcutaneous belly fat on the other hand is easily spotted by pinching the skin between your fingers, and is found directly under the skin of the abdominal area.

Inner fat plays a major role in a variety of health problems, much more so than subcutaneous fat, and has been linked, amongst others, to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and metabolic disturbances. The larger the store of inner fat, the greater one’s waist circumference.During this talk Prof Nola Dippenaar will deal with healthy ways to reduce your waist circumference – a more vital number than your weight.

Arts & Crafts @ Greenlyn Village

We want to be part of the growth of this market in order to establish a high-quality arts and crafts market to attract top products.

This we believe will be instrumental in attracting more clients to our markets. Quality art and craft products (preferably handmade) are needed to reach this goal.

Order, discipline and well-presented stalls is of utmost importance. In consultation with Centre Management and Salon Productions we have decided to update the current rules according to the image we want this market to portray in future.

A goal of this market is to create an opportunity for community upliftment in various formats. Upcoming artists get an opportunity to market their products. Projects where new crafts are taught to previous disadvantaged people will be assisted in getting space to exhibit their products in an environment that will be to their advantage.

Embassy’s with outreach programs will be contacted and given space in our market as part of their outreach program.

Yours sincerely
Kobie & Alex Grobler

Esther Chabalala (the stall owner) and her daughter Bontle, say the stall name means "for a parent made by a parent". She started her business with passion in 1992 when she was in matric in Bona High School in Soweto.

She helped her mother in her sewing factory, where she learned lots of skills. She completed her studies and then joined an outreach program where she trained children and ladies.

She now has a workshop in her house where she has different sewing machines. She custom make beautiful bags, wallets, aprons and curtains on order. Congratulations Esther, we are very proud to have an entrepreneur like you in the arts and crafts market at Greenlyn Village.
