Royal Navy veteran who tried to sign up as a schoolboy calls time on career spanning six decades

A ROYAL Navy man from Torpoint is hanging up his uniform today - after an incredible 51 years in the job.

Long-serving Micky Shone's career has spanned six decades, first at sea himself and then as a Lieutenant Commander training Sea Cadets.  Read more.

Island Cadet Awarded 'Cadet of the Week'

Army Cadet, Colour Sergeant Andy Brogan from the Isles of Scilly Platoon, has been awarded Cadet of the Week by British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS).

Andy is the senior Cadet at the island platoon which is situated 30 miles of the South West Coast of Cornwall.

Andy was nominated by his Platoon Commander Captain Tony Smith, who has been absent from the platoon in recent months whilst receiving medical treatment on the mainland.  Read more.

Wells Cadet Centre renamed as a tribute to Harry Patch

Air Cadets and Army Cadets paraded through Wells to celebrate the renaming of their joint training centre in honour of Harry Patch – the “Last Fighting Tommy”.

Harry, who died aged 111 in 2009, spent the final years of his remarkable life as a resident of the city.  "He would have been so proud to think he has been honoured in this way,” said Flight Lieutenant Les Tanner, Commanding officer of 1955 Squadron (City of Wells) Air Training Corps.

“Harry cared passionately about young people and would have been delighted to see them coming together in such an excellent facility.”  Read more.

Sherborne Air Training Corps granted £500 to help with Ten Tors Challenge

Air Cadets in Sherborne will have new camping equipment for a hiking challenge thanks to a community fund.  Members of the 874 Squadron (Sherborne) Air Training Corps will take part in the Ten Tors challenge in Dartmoor in May.
