Happy Birthday, SHCLA!

New Logo

With input from the advisory committee and community members, SHCLA selected its logo design set. Many thanks to those of you who provided feedback and input. Stay tuned as we continue to work on the website.

Board of Directors

The SHCLA Advisory Committee nominated and interviewed candidates for the Board of Directors. Elections had been delayed to further expand the pool of nominees in an effort to ensure that the organization's governing body reflects the diversity of the population it serves. Election results are expected to be in soon.

Membership Structure

A major goal of the SHCLA is to provide a community where residents feel uniquely empowered. After extensive research and discussion, the advisory committee members decided on a hybrid governance structure that will balance the desire for strong resident engagement and governance, with the ability to act quickly when necessary. The governance structure will be:

  • A tripartite CLT board made up of CLT residents and family members, public sector representatives, and community partners,
  • A resident council comprised of all residents, providing feedback over their own properties while working alongside the board to offer insight and advice on organizational direction, and
  • A supporting (sometimes called non-statutory) membership made up of organizations, peers, families and community members that support SHCLA's work.

Advisory Committee Appreciation

SHCLA extends heartfelt appreciation to its advisory committee members for serving, advising and guiding the formation of the organization over the past 6 months. Once the board is elected, we hope to continue working with the advisory committee, and will consider with the group how to move forward.

Focus Groups

The SHCLA has recently heard from over 40 focus group participants. Peers and family members discussed what housing for this organization could be like and how to achieve it.

The opinions and perspectives of peers and family members are crucial to the creation of this organization and we'd like to hear from more people - especially residents from Central County (San Leandro, Castro Valley, and Hayward) and South County (Fremont, Newark and Union City). Please help us spread the word with these flyers in both English and Spanish.
