Monthly Volunteer Day at Buffalo Bayou Park

Thanks to volunteers from Milby High School, Lanier Middle School and our community who helped out during January's volunteer day!
Join us on Saturday, February 20 to complete a variety of tasks that will keep Buffalo Bayou Park green and growing! Bring your own gloves and BBP will provide any needed tools.

Buffalo Bayou – from Mastodons to Marathons Walking Tours

Enjoy free, one-hour walking tours presented by BBP and Katy Prairie Conservancy, Buffalo Bayou – from Mastodons to Marathons, taking place the 3rd Saturday of each month. Led by Texas Master Naturalists, the tour will highlight how the landscape and ecology of 19th century Texas created Houston, as well as the importance of prairies in rebuilding this astonishing and all but vanished ecosystem.

Whole Foods Market 5% Day

Love Whole Foods Market? Support BBP by doing some grocery shopping or grabbing breakfast/lunch/dinner at Whole Foods Market. Drop by our booths at the Montrose and Kirby locations to learn more about the Waugh Drive Bridge bat colony and BBP's programs. Also, bring the kids to make bat masks! Proceeds from this event will go towards interpretive signage at Buffalo Bayou Park!

Lunch & Learn at Hotel ICON

Join Buffalo Bayou Partnership for a community open house “lunch and learn” that will highlight BBP/Hotel ICON packages and Buffalo Bayou-related amenities for locals and guests. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy complimentary refreshments, purchase boxed lunches from Line & Lariat, as well as meet neighborhood attraction and outdoor experts to get the scoop on upcoming events!

Texas Trails and Active Transportation Conference

We're proud to announce that BBP President Anne Olson will be speaking at the Texas Trails and Active Transportation Conference, taking place March 9-11 in Houston. On March 10, Anne's discussion will highlight capital projects such as the $58 million Buffalo Bayou Park, Sabine Promenade, Sesquicentennial Park, Allen’s Landing Park, hike and bike trails, public art, and programming.
The TTAT Conference will bring together those involved with bicycle, pedestrian, and other active transportation and recreation modes from around Texas and the world. The conference will focus on issues of economic development, health, safety, and many other topics relevant to advancing active transportation and trails.

Leading with Landscape II: The Houston Transformation Conference

The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) will be holding the Leading with Landscape II: The Houston Transformation conference on Friday, March 11 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The conference will feature three consecutive moderated panel discussions – the first two will examine work done to date and then work in the planning phases and/or under construction, assessing the influences of culture, history, and ecology in the evolving Houston cityscape; the final panel will provide a comprehensive appraisal of the projects and issues presented and assess their implications on city-shaping.

Following the conference, What’s Out There Weekend Houston, March 12-13, will offer free, expert-led tours of approximately 30 sites, including Buffalo Bayou Park! Register today!

Congrats to Apache!

Our friends at Apache celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Tree Grant Program by planting their 4 millionth tree in neighboring Memorial Park on January 29. BBP is proud to have been a recipient of a $75,000 contribution and nearly 10,000 native trees planted in Buffalo Bayou Park. Congratulations on this tremendous milestone!
