GMSG in Perth: You’re Invited to a Two-Day Trio of Workshops

A workshop series involving some of GMSG’s new and exciting projects is taking place this February in Perth. All three workshops will be held at the CORE Resources Innovation Hub, where discussions on integrated operations and interoperability will play a vital role in shaping GMSG’s working group strategies in 2017. This two-day event will conclude with a meeting of the Communications Infrastructure sub-committee, a dedicated group within GMSG about to publish its first guideline suite on digital communications in an underground mine.

Read on to find descriptions of all three workshops, along with registration links. For more information on any of GMSG’s 2017 workshops, please contact Jennifer Curran.

Interoperability Workshop
Date: Tuesday, February 7
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. AWST

The Interoperability Working Group is holding a series of three workshops in Australia, North America and South America to take the global pulse of interoperability needs in the mining industry. This Perth workshop is the first of three to build the scope and work plans for the working group and will have a distinct focus on the needs of the Australia region. Participants will discuss how to define “interoperability,” identify existing projects and organizations to include in the strategy, and reach consensus on prioritization, including key issues, industry guidelines and tools, and developing a project timeline. Outcomes from this workshop will be brought forward to upcoming workshops in Denver and Santiago.

Integrated Operations Workshop
Date: Wednesday, February 8
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. AWST

The Integrated Operations Working Group is holding a workshop to determine the value of creating an integrated operations guideline through industry collaboration. The workshop will build on the outcomes of the GMSG Executive Roundtable on Integrated Operations (Toronto, February 2), where executives from more than 15 mining companies will come together to share expertise and develop a strategy for the advancement of integrated operations. Participants will be asked to identify the specific topics relevant to the mining sector in the region.

Communications Infrastructure Workshop
Date: Wednesday, February 8
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. AWST

The Communications Infrastructure Sub-committee of the Underground Working Group is in the final stages of completing its guideline suite, a reference framework for implementing digital communications in an underground mine environment. In this workshop, which follows the approval of sections 1 (Positioning and Needs Analysis) and 2 (Solutions & Architectures) of the guideline, sub-committee members will define areas and content to be included in the Section 3 document (General Guidelines). This section focuses on best practices, recommendations, guidelines and other considerations; sections 4 (Business Development) and 5 (Planning, Deploying & Support Considerations) to follow.
