The SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George’s County, Inc. is a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to animal welfare. We do not operate the county shelter. We are chartered by the State of Maryland, but we receive no state or county funds. Our activities are supported solely by contributions, dues, and fundraising events.
Fundraising Programs Offer a New Way to Help Charities The PGSPCA is participating in several new fundraising programs, aimed at reaching new donor audiences and expanding options for current donors.
ResQthreads - Promote pet adoption and help the PGSPCA when you shop online at ResQthreads for clothing, gifts, and accessories. When you check out, make sure that we are selected as your beneficiary! We are listed as "SPCA/HS of Prince George's County".
EXERCISE ResQwalk - Raise money by simply walking your dog! Download the ResQwalk app to your mobile deviceand track your distance. At the end of each week, ResQwalk donates money proportionately to the total distance walked by each group.
We do not have any hard data on which walking apps results in the most donations—both app rely on varying amounts of pooled money generated by sponsors. Let us know which app you prefer!
Some animals in our program get adopted in a matter of days. Some are with us for a few wonderful weeks. And then there's that third category—a little more difficult to place. And that's where Morty has found himself.
What is more enticing than an excited, open-mouthed puppy smile on the face of an adult dog? Seven-year-old Morty bounds rather than runs, and lopes rather than walks.
Removed from a long abusive owner, Morty, despite the deprivations of his past, is remarkably forgiving. He loves long car rides so that he can stick his head out the window. House-trained and crate trained, he is most attentive to his fosters and cuddling up close. Morty is a quick learner and is clicker trained—he is the star student at his obedience training classes, perfecting his basic commands and excelling at agility. He has even started learning to ride a skateboard!
The Perfect Match? Morty would thrive as the only dog in an active, dog-savvy home. Perhaps as a holdover from his past, he does not get along with most dogs, and has a tendency to bark and lunge at them. He is still new to toys, and will growl a warning should someone attempt to take one from his mouth. Although his fosters are working to correct this behavior, this remains a work in progress.
And so the search continues for Morty's perfect match. If you'd like to help, please share Morty's story. His new home is out there waiting for him—we just need to find it!
PGSPCA IN THE COMMUNITY
PGSPCA Joins the Baysox for "Mutt Monday" On Labor Day, the PGSPCA participated in "Mutt Monday" with Bowie Baysox, our local Minor League baseball team. We handed out PGSPCA-logo hand fans on the blistering hot afternoon as we shared information on our services, making our table a popular hangout.
Eat, Drink, Shop—Donate! Whether you choose to dine in, carryout, or pick up a few gifts in their general store, Franklin's will donate 20% of your pre-tax receipt to the PGSPCA. In order for our group to receive credit for the purchase, patrons must turn in their itemized receipts to the host and ask that their receipt be added to the fundraiser.
